I ate lunch today at Tienda y Taqueria Puebla Mexican, a grocery store with a 20-seat food counter facing the working kitchen. Great reviews about this place. Atmosphere is old-school diner, but I always go for the food, not necessarily the atmosphere. The waiter was extremely cordial. I ordered one chicken taco, two large perfect pork tamales with lettuce and sour cream on top and a delicious large Nopales (cactus) salad with half of a sliced avocado, chopped tomatoes, parsley, and a mild Mexican firm crumbly cheese. The cactus slices in the salad were slighty warmed. This is not a commonly-found salad these days, as I later checking about 15 other Mexican restaurants in Providence and I did not find the nopales salad anywhere else. Everything at Tienda was made-to-order and the portions are large (I took half of my lunch home.) I forgot to ask if they made their own tamales, but regardless, they were delicious. I had no idea what the cost would be and I expected that the nopales salad could be $8 to $10 alone. But my entire bill, including two small bottles of water was $13 + a $5 tip. A real bargain! I enthusiastically recommend this restaurant.

6 Tacos ($2 each), Burrito ($8), and quesadilla ($8)we're all delicious. The portions are very large and pretty cheap overall ($28)At the moment, no dining in. Takeout only. The parking lot is a bit small and the street parking sucks. But the food is delicious and while you're waiting you can do a bit of groceries shopping
