First, our waitress was sweet. However, the initial response from the owner, regarding our disappointment in service was unacceptable. She was rude and defensive. I attended a lunch meeting with a local non-profit org. To my surprise, most of the items on the menu were not available. No mac n cheese, greens, yams, or ribs. Only fried chicken and catfish. So we settled for fried wings, fried catfish, fries, and a Caesar salad and biscuits. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to eat and had to take the food to go. It took 45 minutes to prepare our order. We were the first customers of the day; the restaurant was for most part, empty. The owner never checked in with us, or even inquired about our food order, although she walked by us numerous times. They offered to "comp" our biscuits for the inconvenience, however, when we arrived to the office, we discovered they never gave us the biscuits :/ We will not be returning. This was their second strike, not the first.
It's as if you came into town from a random road trip and stopped by your distant kinfolks house unannounced. They're surprised and happy to see you. Coincidently as you're hungry they have the smell of something wonderful in the air. Before you can ask for plate a pipping hot plate just for you.The plate is full of souther goodness. Your Kin definitely put in work in the kitchen.
I really enjoyed this place. I came here bottle because the food sounded amazing and to support a black owned business. I got catfish, greens and Mac and cheese. As someone who doesn’t wat pork, it was really nice the greens were cooked with smoked turkey. The catfish was really good and the Mac and cheese was alright. I really enjoyed my cocktail, Juju Juice. I would definitely go back.
First time trying Kin’s and blown away by the great and helpful staff, but more so the wonderful food. Had the catfish meal with Mac n cheese and collards, as well as beignets for dessert. Everything was delicious, the Mac n cheese was some of the best I’ve had. Shockingly the star of the meal was the beignets, suggested by our waitress. Would highly recommend giving Kin’s a try you won’t be disappointed.
first time here phenomenal experience! had the catfish, collard greens and mac and cheese. all fantastic! Grace, our server was delightful as well as Julie the owner. I would come back here anytime
Absolutely the BEST southern food in Providence!! My family and I had dinner tonight and everything was awesome.....the food, the cocktails and the service were impeccable. If you haven't already sampled this food, you need to put it on your priority list. We will definitely be back the next time we're in Providence.
One of my favorite restaurants in Rhode Island. The vibes are immaculate. Everyone is super friendly, and the food is fantastic. No matter if you want to enjoy a mid-day lunch or their perfect half-price wine Wednesday. I highly recommend giving it a try. You will not be let down!
Visited Providence for the first time and was really excited to try this place. It didn't disappoint. Service was excellent, every member of the staff was very friendly and talkative...I honestly felt like I walked into a place filled with my old friends. The food was 10/10 and sitting at the bar, I actually got a free drink as the bartender accidentally poured a double for an order that was a single. Definitely going to come back to this place next time I'm in the city.
What a wonderful place! I’m from the south and this place hit home. I was all in my feelings as I was eating because this is what I have been missing living in Mass. We tried everything! The biscuits were divine with that delicious honey butter. I have been dying for catfish and it was so tasty. The best seasoning! The collard greens were on fire, and those candied yams…ORDER THEM! The “dranks” were phenomenal. I had Black Girl Magic. Glittery and just strong enough! The staff welcomed us as soon we walked in. Everyone was kind and accommodating. We had a chance to meet the one we who was dancing around the restaurant chatting with everyone, and pitching in to help everyone. I cannot wait to go back. You have to try this place. Support your local restaurants!
Great little spot for late dinner. Lovely staff that seemed shocked when asked for their opinion (not a thing for Rhodians?) but provided a great suggestion - Chicken Sandwich w/homemade hot sauce = KILLER!! Would go again next time in town. Nice to see a place like Providence show a little SOUL.
