This restaurant was a HUGE let down. It looks very pretty but we should have known better since we were the only ones there on a Saturday night. We were excited to try the $55 per plate beef tenderloin since it sounded delicious. It was advertised as coming with charred carrots and spoon bread. Look at the picture. There were no carrots and the cold triangle on the side was still frozen and was inedible. It seemed like a leftover pancake. I can’t believe they can charge that price for a meal that was completely not what was advertised. It is a shame that this restaurant has gone downhill. I noticed that no one has answered any of the latest reviews on TripAdvisor which is a sign management isn’t paying attention. Don’t ruin a nice stay at the hotel-definitely eat elsewhere!
The room was pleasant. The staff was outstanding. The food was terrible. The tea was good. The finger sandwiches were subpar. There was barely any filling in the cucumber sandwich. There was barely any filling in the strawberry one. Bland bland bland. Plain old chicken one. bread toastd. Ugh. Then the scones and deserts: way too sweet. The scones were like a muffin. Very sweet. Not a good scone for clotted creme and jam. The deserts were so sickeningly sweet and had no taste. I had to just stop eating them The sugar overload had our party nauseous for some time. One of the worse teas I ever been to .
The evening started with a completely different and more limited menu than what was online. But the waiter said there were additions. So I ordered the half chicken. Turned out that this was the smallest FULL chicken on earth. Perhaps a sparrow? Really wasn’t 2 ounces meat total. And I asked for it crisp but it was wet. And asked for fingerling potatoes instead of sweet potatoes. But the sweet came on plate and I was charged extra for fingerlings. And I asked for crisp Brussels Sprouts and they came out late - after we finished meal - and were bright green. Not cooked well. And the sommelier must have been on vacation because the $14 glass of wine was actually from a $14 bottle of wine retail. Really? It was vile. And the waiter could not figure out how to open the Prosecco bottle. As for my date - swordfish tasted frozen/cooked. Not a bit of flavor. And polenta was truly without a tastebud of flavor. We left hungry. Really. Shame on this place.
Booked afternoon tea, which they fully charged with tax and tip when reservation made. Selection of 5 teas, none looking or tasting like tea. The the food came out. Seemed slopped together. The ‘’savory’ was get this, 4 cucumber sandwiches on small bread rounds and 8 small rounds of pate. When we fussed a bit about the food and said “who serves this at tea”? the restaurant manager had the nerve to say “ we do”. Well at $55 per head plus tax/tip they can keep it. Had tea the day prior at another Newport hotel which was excellent. Look at photos of what we were served compared to what they advertised.
No hostess at that stand, people waited for more than 20 mins for the hostess, I waited over an hour for my food.
Spectacular dinner. Service was impeccable. Cocktails and dinner were fantastic. Truly one of the best dinners we've ever had. The back room, where we were, is simply and beautifully done and feels more like a restaurant than a hotel, versus the front room which feels more like hotel dining. Outside has a nice setup as well.
I love this place. My fiancé and I have visited the bar area a couple times in the last few weeks and are always treated well by the staff. The drinks are great as well. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars out of a SOLID 5 is that, oh my goodness, do they need to turn up the air conditioner. It's 80 degrees outside tonight and I feel like its cooler outside than it is inside. If that changes on our future visits, I will certainly change my review to a 5/5 because it really is great.
Words cannot accurately explain how disappointing this was. I’ll start with the photos displayed online - these are not real! The photos of the food is not even remotely what it looks like - at least not in my experience… the hostess was rude. The food was mostly inedible (aside from the toast). We spent $65 for breakfast (crazy) and barely touched it because it was awful.
Sadly while the hotel is amazing the restaurant is notWe took two plates of pasta and the taste was awful, same thing for the meat
Food was amazing!!
