Excellent food ! High end up service ! Lovely ambiance ! Highly recommend to make a reservation on the third floor.Going there for 8 years - annually .
Ordered the sirloin steak with the onion chutney and sautéed vegetables. Did sushi and some salmon absolutely delicious one of the best meals I’ve had in years. By the main oysters my husband did a sampler and they were fantastic.this place does a great job in the waiters know everything about every dish.
The food here is okay. Unfortunately, when we asked the waiter about the menu, he was not at all familiar with the restaurant’s food! We started with the calamari, which was pretty tough. It’s fried with parsley and capers, which were quite good. We also had the hot Brussel Sprout salad. The brussel sprouts were mixed with cheese (Parmesan?) and then baked. It was a very heavy dish and not at all like a salad. We also split a salmon sandwich. It was fine. Nothing special. The bathroom area smelled of urine, which was pretty gross. The waiter also kept trying to remove plates and silverware before we were finished. There are better restaurants in Newport.
My daughter lives in Newport and I go frequently to Newport!! Love Newport.. love Clarke Cooke House!! Would recommend it highly to all!!!!
Service was sub-par. Waitress was passive aggressive and not helpful or engaging. Callie G. even charged us for my parents 48th Anniversary dessert!! Thought it was going to be something nice for them, even they thought it was disrespectful. Sad. Then she had the audacity to ask if everything was ok? Of course, it wasn’t! The food was not great, the portions were a joke, and service was as I quote my parents a 3 out of 10. Super unprofessional to ask if you can speak to us while we’re having dinner to ask why your tip wasn’t what you thought it should be and on top of that, any fine dining restaurant you don’t take the bill before you’re done with dinner let alone ask you to leave the table to have a talk? Never will we promote this place and/or come back. Don’t waste your time or money!!
I sat at the bar. The chef recommended the tuna steak. That's a delicious luxury. I also had oysters. The chef, bartenders, and servers are all friendly people. There are a few cry baby reviews on here, which I hope folks ignore. It's tourist season and those serving us deserve a bit of grace.
Great restaurant year-round and one of our favorites in the off-season. Wonderful ambience with the crackling fireplace and all the sailing heritage on display. Quintessential Newport. Dined in the Candy Store room, excellent food and service. Perfect place for our special occasion family dinner. Although I wish I owned it, despite having the same last name, our family has no affiliation.
Our meal was delicious and our server (from Poland) could not have been nicer. After enjoying our meal we ordered dessert. We had asked for the bill and while in process of paying, with a credit card, the so called Maître d’ came to our table. We thought he was going to say thank you for coming hope you enjoyed your meal. Instead he told us we had to leave as he needed our table!! There were at least 5 empty tables around us. It was the ruddiest thing especially as our son had just put his coat on and the credit card back being put in the wallet. We would have been out of the restaurant in less than 2 minutes if this man could have read the room. We are local. We will mention anytime someone is going to Newport to avoid this restaurant as it will leave a bad taste in your mouth with such a rude employee!!
I loved the atmosphere at the Clarke Cooke House! We sat by the fire and enjoyed the people watching. The food came promptly and was well presented and tasty. The evening was tainted by the attitude of our server. She made us feel uncomfortable and treated us as though we were a nuisance. Such a shame. We will not be back as there are so many other wonderful restaurants in Newport.
Visited Newport during Christmas week - which was awesome. We had reservations at another restaurant for dinner but changed it to Clarke Cooke House because it looked so charming. It was such a wonderful experience. Food was wonderful and atmosphere was what you would expect at a New England town - so cozy!! I was so happy - it was everything I was looking for! Thank you to all for your hospitality!!Kathy
