So friends took my husband & I out to this restaurant where we were seated in the back. I don't know if they were trying to conserve energy or didn't decide to pay their energy bill, but there was NO air moving in that place on one of the hottest days of the year. The heat was so oppressive that we couldn't even enjoy ourselves b/c we were sweating the whole time. My husband pointed out there was a tiny a.c split system in the corner that obviously wasn't keeping up with the demand! So I ran out of time before we got there to google this restaurant & their menu. And my friends didn't inform me that this was a seafood restaurant or i would have said "please pick another restaurant," as I do not eat any seafood. It all just has a "fishy taste" & is chewy to me. That left very few, boring dishes on the menu for me to eat. My husband had a cheese steak sub & I had a basket of fried chicken tenders. Both tasted like a cheese steak sub & a basket of fried chicken tenders should taste like, but nothing special. My one friend had a crabcake & the other friend had a lobster roll & they both said they enjoyed them. After the meal was dropped off, we were never checked on or asked if we needed refills. I don't think I ever need to return here.
I really wanted to like this place. My husband and I each got the trifecta dish in addition to soup and our side dishes and it just didn’t taste right. We took 75% of our dish home. Later that night we both were violently ill and found out it was food poisoning. Our only meal of the day was the paddock. I called to politely let them know we had gotten food poisoning from their restaurant in case they had gotten similar feedback. I am a nurse practitioner and not ignorant to the fact that covid can look like food poisoning. We were tested and it showed food poisoning. I specifically told the manager this on the phone. I didn’t ask for a refund or anything, even though our total was $150. The manager was unfortunately very condescending, telling me they sell 200 crab cakes a day and we must be mistaken. I’m not sure why they kept talking about the crab cakes when it could have been any of the other food we ate there. The owner was at least nicer on the phone, but still condescending. Very disappointed with this experience and the response I got after trying to inform them of a contamination.
Everything was perfectly okay. My steak cook perfectly but had weak color, the crab cake was beautiful but under seasoned. I would’ve be unable to distinguish the French onion soup from that that of Round the Clock diner. Caesar salad was very very salty. Service was good. Atmosphere was pleasant ( if you like country music) but a little sterile. Meh. Probably will give it another try.
My wife and I were in York recently for the biannual York Train Meet and went to dinner one evening at the Paddock, as it seemed to be an upscale restaurant and was rated #4 in the York area. We had made a reservation and arrived on time. The parking lot was full, so we parked on the street. We were promptly seated at a small table for two along the back window facing the parking lot. There was an immediate problem. It was a very chilly evening, but for some reason, the air conditioning was on and my chair was right next to a floor vent which was blowing cold air onto me. There was no need for A/C on such a chilly night. If anything, the heat should have been on, but there was really no need for either, and certainly no need for A/C. It was bizarre. I politely asked the server to please turn off the air conditioning or at least turn it way down, but she said there was nothing she could do about it, because it was controlled automatically. Frankly, I was not at all convinced by her answer. There was also no offer to move us to another table. The best I could do was place a menu over the vent and hold it down with my foot, while wearing the heavy sweatshirt I wore to the restaurant the rest of the time we were there. Strike 1. We then attempted to order a bottle of wine, or glasses of wine other than the cheap house wines, which all came from the same winemaker, as Paddock's online and actual menus indicated that the had such wines available. However, to our surprise, we were told by the server that they only had wines by the glass, and they were all the house wines. What a bummer and it was very misleading advertising as well. My wife then ordered a glass of house wine. I decided to order a draft beer and asked our server to review their draft list, but she told me that they had no such list. She then rattled off the draft beers they had at a brisk pace that was a challenge to process. I ordered an IPA. Strike 2. We both ordered, starter salads, the Haddock entrees - with extra lemons, and some dinner sides. The vegetables in the salads were blah, although the dressing was pretty good. The entrees arrived before we were finished our salads, a no-no. That should never happen in a good restaurant. The pieces of haddock were huge and too big for even me to finish, and I never leave food on the table. My wife was barely able to eat half of hers, and I ate about 2/3 of mine. The fish was delicious, but what a waste to have to throw out nearly a whole entree. The server should have let us know in advance that the portions of haddock were huge, and we then would have ordered only one. Also, the lemons we had ordered were not delivered with the entree. May seem like a small point, but it is a pet peeve of mine. The sides that came with our meals were barely warm, and were just OK, nothing special. Strike 3. The experience we had was nothing like what we expected. With all of the issues we experienced, notably mediocre food and substandard service, there is no way that this restaurant could possibly be the #4 restaurant in York. Needless to say, we will never return.
Service was great.Food was deliciousLoved the onion soup and my Cobb salad , well let's just say I have 3 meals from 1 salad.Very goodWe will be back to try one of their seafood dishes .
My wife and I tried this for the first time today and it will be our last unfortunately. We started with soup. I had the French Onion and my wife had the soup of the day cream of crab. My soup was VERY salty. Her soup was room temperature at best. I flagged the waitress and she graciously replaced it. Our entrees were the same, a Trifecta of scallops, shrimp and crab cake. The scallops had no taste and the shrimp were overcooked and tough. One upshot is the crab cake was OK, a bit greasey on the bottom but the upper portion was OK. If the price was low I'd say I got what I paid for but ours was not a cheap dinner so our expectation was that the dinner would match the cost. We were let down. Have a blessed day.
The Paddock has become one of our favorite "special places." We've been there a dozen times for special occasions and always have been treated very well by staff as well as provided with exceptional quality food, beautifully presented. Today was no exception. Sadly, we will be moving from the area next month, so we took a bit of extra time while there, to enjoy the restaurant which we have come to love. If it weren't for the move, I imagine we would be returning again and again for many years to come. To the Paddock staff--thank you for taking such good care of us over the years. Godspeed.
This whole experience was really great! Server, Chris was friendly and attentive! Food was some of the best I've ever had. Chill and relaxing vibe. We will definitely be returning here!
Lobster rolls were perfect. Served properly On a buttered and grilled NE hotdog roll and stuffed with claw meat. No heavy mayo or fillers. Oysters Rockefeller for the appetizer couldn't have been better. Our server was awesome as well. All around great experience.
Dinner here was amazing! Excellent seafood cooked perfectly. I had the Eastern trifecta and it was amazing!
