Having previously worked in a Sicilian restaurant in New York I was thrilled to learn that there is a mom & pop family restaurant here in York that was founded by a Sicilian family. So I've been having sweet dreams of a great Sicilian pie made with thick soft crusted yeast based properly proofed dough covered in a well spiced thick layer of Pomodoro sauce with diced Romas, layered with whole milk mozzarella cheese and topped with thick sliced Margherita or Hormel pepperonis that cup when they are baked, and some freshly made seasoned Italian sausage & fresh sliced mushrooms. Mmmm... I was so looking forward to this, but unfortunately our pie was the complete opposite. The crust appeared to have been made by taking two very thin cardboard tasting dough crusts and layering them to try & make a thicker crust, the sauce was a thin, watery & darn near unseasoned marinara, the cheese was stiff & rubbery with little flavor which implies that it was made from skim milk and not whole milk, the wafer thin pepperonis obviously would have little to no flavor, the Italian sausage tasted like unseasoned breakfast sausage, and the mushrooms were small & slimey, obviously out of a can and not fresh. Our garlic bread was made with good Italian bread, but the miserly amount of butter and what tasted like garlic powder instead of real garlic left a bad taste in our mouths. The only reason I gave this place two stars instead of one is that the employees keep the restaurant very clean, tidy, and they disinfected the tables after each serving. Additionally our server was pro active and brought us ice tea refills when our 1st glasses were getting low. So kudos to the server & buss staff, but thumbs down to the chef/cook in the kitchen.
My friend and I try and eat at Mario's whenever we are in York for a National Train Show, WE arrived on a Friday evening and the place was packed. We had to park way downhill but were met by a very friendly gentleman in a golf cart that drove us to the entrance. We were told it would be a 45 minute wait but we were seated in about 15. Our waiter came over promptly and took our drink order. When he returned he took our orders of Chicken Parm and Clam Linguni. Both arrived promply and were outstanding. Highly recommend

First time here, pizza was decent at best. It was not very flavorful. They were busy, but they messed up our specific pizza TWICE, and we settled the second time because we didn’t want to continue waiting. Customer service is very top notch, just wasn’t our most favorite pie.
Fantastic Food... the one tiny complaint I have is that they don't put enough Sauce on their Pasta Noodles... I always have to ask for extra. Nevertheless, it's absolutely delicious...?❣️?
Never had an issue there until tonight. This is an unacceptable way to open your box and find your meal. It looks like it was tossed into the box the sauce was ice cold. And the boli was semi burnt
Came to pick up an order. Hostess ignored me and played on her phone. The order was listed as confirmed and after waiting over 20 minutes was told the order was never started. The girl working the back window was doing her best and I give her kudos. Just ridiculous experience.
Disappointed. Always was a true favorite.Will try again. This time stromboli( our ultimate fav) was totally dry. Chicken Alfredo, oily and no flavor. Manicotti a total disappointment, it was just ok.Italian wedding soup was perfect and garlic bread perfect also.Will come back. Hopefully will be great as it use to be.
Context: it was a Very Busy Holiday night.We made a phone call to order food. We arrived right on specific wait time food was going to be done. Food was hot and fresh. Service were friendly and cordial. The drive thru pick up line went very smoothly and fast. We've Been eating here once a month for over 10 years HIGHLY RECOMMEND
It was wonderful! Great food, and our waiter was an absolute sweetheart! Haven't been there in years, but wondering why?? Bought gift certificates before we left and sorry we didn't buy more. Already looking forward to going back.
