I have been coming to eat and drink at Big Jim's for over three years and have had a wonderful experience everytime. The cook is so interactive and attentive to every customer and food is clearly his expertise. The food is fresh and the seafood is top of the line. What a wonderful place that is fresh Cold beer and always a great experience.
My family and I love going out to eat. We tried this place awhile ago, and it was OK. We wanted to give it another chance today on Friday 7/29/2022, and it was one of the most terrible restaurant experiences. They said they were short staffed, and that’s ok, we get it, so we expected service to be slower than normal, but that’s no excuse for the quality of the food. The snow crab legs and mussels were over cooked and the mussel sauce was sour and had a terrible smell. The mussels were literally shriveled up. My boyfriend never complains, but he did this time and could not eat the mussels. We tried telling them, nicely, about the mussels, but the waitress walked away in the middle of us explaining what was wrong with them - like she did not care. The Long Island iced tea was also way too sweet. The Tito’s and club soda was put in a larger cup, so there was a lot more club soda ratio to vodka, so the next round were felt forced to order a double. The cheesesteak was OK, tasted like steak-ums with store bought nacho cheese. Crab cake had way too much filler, it was super mushy. There was also a group of ladies sitting near us complaining about the size of their crabs and quality of their food also, and they weren’t very nice about it. But we knew then, it wasn’t just our food, it was the food in general that just wasn’t well prepared. We spent $130, and that will be our last time there. Being understaffed is understandable and one thing, but that’s no excuse for the quality of food. I hope they address the kitchen/chef issues. There were also two hostesses that we noticed multiple times playing on their phones and chatting - when they could have been helping the wait staff more. It just seems like a poorly managed restaurant. We were really disappointed, especially with the amount of money we spent. We actually liked the atmosphere with the fishing decor and country music. We just wish the food, staff, and drinks would have been better.
This chef knows how to prepare Maryland-style seafood!! The cream-of-crab soup was absolutely delicious....so much crab meat and the texture was spot on! The hard shells were heavy, full and perfectly seasoned!!! Absolutely delicious!!!!
This was an amazing experience. The quality of the food was great at a reasonable price. The owner very down to earth and a really nice guy. I would definitely recommend Jimmy seafood.
*My review is not about the quality of food*We were visiting York, saw Big Jim's menu, and were excited to go. We got there about 9p. How it presents on Google search is not what we saw. There's a big bar/pub side, a market section, and the 3rd section had some tables and pool tables, where folks seemed to be drinking, playing pool, enjoying themselves. The kitchen was closed, but if it'd been open, it's not an atmosphere I'd sit with my 12 year old.We were pretty bummed.
This place is simply amazing. Took my wife and family here for the wife's birthday this past weekend. The ambiance and the people are great. Service was fantastic and the food was absolutely delicious from the appetizers to our entree's. The chef came out to greet us at our table as we were dining which added a truly classic touch to our experience. The bar is laden with all types of drinks one might want and there is no shortage either. Big Jim's has just gained new regular customers. Way to go!
One of my favorite local places makes the best mules and good tap selection they have oysters ! 3 different kids on Wednesdays there steam shrimp is yummy and soups bar tenders always so friendly the chef comes out and checks on ya if he has time as well so very cool
If you plan on coming here to eat you better have a thick wallet. Let alone the cost of drinks. I can honestly say out of all the places and bars I have been to this has been the most expensive please I have ever visited. I $7 a shot that is way too outrageous. The pool table are not in the greatest shape yet they still have pool league here.

After driving by at different times for 3 years, I finally decided to stop and try Big Jim's out. The oyster basket was yummy. I also took carry out home for my family of 4. It was a hit. Great burgers, and fish sandwich. To have the cook come on out and apologize ,that he was the only only cook today, I give this a 10 today. Thanks so much. I'll be back. Also, my service was excellent ?.
