Chef and waitress and food were amazing. We were there to celebrate my husbands birthday. We walked in the hostess didn’t say a word to us just got two menus and walked to the back of the restaurant, never said hello or what we were there for since they also have a sushi bar. I looked at her and told her we were there for hibachi. She took us to the hibachi table threw the menus down on the plates, still never saying a word and walked away. For the next 20 minutes she was yelling loudly in her language. Everyone in the restaurant was looking at her including the workers.
A lovely and delicious, authentic take on Japanese cuisine. If you want to eat and watch your food get prepared, I'd recommend coming during dinner. If you are more cost-conscious, come during lunch for the lunch specials and sushi happy hour.Tasty Japanese food, with sushi, hibachi, and bento box specials. Something to eat for everyone here. Two can comfortably eat for $35-40 and we both had leftovers. The appetizers were perfect- a side salad and very tasty soup. The chicken hibachi is the best tasting, tenderest chicken I've had anywhere. And you can choose to get takeout or delivery to your hotel room if you're staying at the Woodlands Inn. Highly recommend.
The environment is amazing, it’s very natural and pretty. The staff here is extremely nice. The food is mid though. It depends on what you get. The teriyaki is amazing, but it’s either hit or miss with the flavor of the food and the authenticity of it.
So for 2 months we have been to 4 different places and I'm finally putting my thoughts out on this one. SHOGUN has the best tasting sushi and hibachi....for me and my family... Their lunch specials are another win with 1/2 off all sushi, which gives you a chance to try things you may not for a more palatable cost. They may not be as large as some other spots, but good things come in small packages, and this is one of them.Others are good, but I feel this is the favorite of mine
Favorite sushi place in Wilkes Barre area, staff is always friendly and the food delicious. And the view by the windows of the stream outside is memorizing!

Don’t bother making a reservation. They will just sit people as they walk in and tell you, the person who made a reservation for a birthday dinner to come back in 30-60 minutes to “check on table”. Great service ?. Turns out upon talking to some other customers, they decided to take a larger party who did not make reservations and pushed us and another party back over an hour. Best part….they expected us to pay an automatic added gratuity of 30% after having us sit outside for over an hour and the waitress only giving us out drinks and never coming back to ask if we wanted another drink or anything at all for that matter. Food might be good but the service is the lowest I have ever experienced and I believe you should give your business to one of the other places in town.
After two experiences at this establishment, I am confused by their decent rating. I will preface this by saying that the food is good, not great but good. The service on the other hand is absolutely terrible and rude does not even begin to describe the “manager” and waitstaff. We decided to stop in for Hibachi on a Saturday evening for my 8 year olds birthday as hibachi is her favorite. With the assumption that it would be a busy evening I called to reserve our table for that night. The manager told us our table would be ready to go at 8:30 PM. Upon our arrival at the restaurant, it was evident that there were no hibachi seats available. It was clear the people seated at the grills had recently arrived as they were just being served their beverages. After 10 minutes of standing at the door the manager finally came over to inform us we would need to wait 45 minutes to an hour for our RESERVED table. As previously stated, this was for a child’s birthday so we were obviously not thrilled to have to stand in the doorway for an hour with 4 hungry children. The woman apologized but told us a party of 18 (with no reservation) walked in so they “had” to take them. It was quite evident they pushed us aside for the larger bill. After listening to the kids complain for 45 minutes we were finally seated. The folks seated with us also had a reservation for the same time and were told on the phone by the manager that if they were late for their reservation they would not be seated. They too were given a 45 minute wait upon arrival. They also had young children eager to eat. We were rushed through ordering and the waitress could not have had less personality if she tried. Our chef was very kind but mellow and boring compared to experiences we have had at other places. The “show” was very rushed and they were skimpy with the sake compared to competitors in the area. Again, the food was ok but there are much better local options. Our waitress forgot the white rice my daughter ordered so we had to chase her for that and she never offered us a refill on our drinks that were clearly empty. Nonetheless, we tipped our chef in cash for his time. When the bill came 20% gratuity was rolled into the total cost for the waitstaff. Normally I would be ok with this but after waiting 45 minutes for my reserved table and having a waitress with no personality, I was not paying the 20%. We paid the cost of the food and tipped the waitress $10 out of pure sympathy. If the service was better we would consider returning but we will support other local businesses instead.
Had a terrible experience today at Shogun. We order from a local hospital multiple times a month. Todays total was 17 meals totaling $250. They loaded the entire 17 meals into 1 big box that only had one thing of tape holding the box together and a smaller box with the salads in it. When asking them to help us carry the items to the outside(being as it was 2 women picking it up) the women(who was extremely rude) proceeded to ignore us. When asking a second time she told us no that we could carry it all and come back for the smaller box and the soda. The box ended up breaking half way out of the woodlands. Almost lost all our food. When we got back to work the food was not all correct. Multiple things wrong or missing. We paid for extra sauces and did not get them. And most of the food was cold. Over all we are disgusted with shogun completely and will never order from there again. We will also be sending this review around to all the departments in the hospital and ask them to not support this business as well.
WILL NEVER EVER COME HERE AGAIN. THE HELP AT THE FRONT DESK IS DISGUSTINGLY RUDE. WAS TOLD I COULDN’T USE MY GIFT CERTIFICATES THAT WERE PURCHASED AS GIFTS FOR ME BECAUSE THEY WERE IN $10 denominations to cover my bill. I could understand multiple COUPONS, not GIFT CERTIFICATES. BIG DIFFERENCE. The help was also rude to the woman in line in front of me. The restaurant had a funny smell also. It was my first time here and will definitely be my last. TERRIBLE SERVICE. Any person of color should especially refrain from eating here because they seem to be kinder to their white patrons.
