First and LAST time I will eat here! We were seated outside and used the QR code to order. We didn’t really have a server someone different brought our drinks, appetizer and food. I went to the hostess station to tell them our pizza was gross because it was BURNT black. The gentleman at the hostess station said I’m sorry it’s not usually like that do you need help closing out your bill? REALLY perhaps you could have gotten me another pizza that wasn’t burnt? I returned to the table and paid the bill via phone. I brought my burnt pizza home which will be going to the trash. I expected better from the staff but that’s not going to happen when dealing with college students. I plan to share my experience and burnt pizza pictures for many to see.
Pizza in Pennsylvania isn't great. That being said, Hiway Pizza makes a good pie. What sets Hiway apart from other pizza places in Penn State is their tomato sauce. It's not sharp from vinegar like most places here. The crust and bottom is a little more on the 'bready' side which is good enough. The cheese is exactly what you expect. A greasy pizza however, definitely needs a pat down from a napkin before taking a bite. For my NJ/NY pizza snobs, I think you'll find Hiway to be better than most others in the area (not including Snap which does artisanal pizza).
Hats off to the bartenders on the night of the homecoming parade. Not staffing properly put those 2 in a terrible situation. I hope they were taken care of. Cheers.
Excellent pizza. I would, however, refrain from ordering extra cheese. you get a lot of extra cheese. that's my fault. I asked for it. aside from that, highly recommend.
Great pizza and downtown state college
Jumped off of I-99 in search of a chicken parm sub, and figured a pizza place in a college town could manage that. I asked for a "chicken parm sub," got a take out box in about 15 minutes, and headed back to the interstate to find out I was wrong. Different regions have different names for subs, but what I got isn't a sub anywhere in the world. The chicken parm part was okay, but it was wrapped in pita bread. It wasn't what I wanted and it wasn't what I asked for. They apparently call it a "wedgie" . How hard is it to say they don't have subs if that's what a customer asks for? It was also way over-priced at $14. I called, mostly because I thought I might have gotten the wrong order and somebody else would have, too. I asked if maybe they should tell people who ask for a sub that they don't serve subs and was told "I'm not the person who took your order." I'm pretty sure that means that both of the 2 employees I dealt with are poorly trained. Maybe it's relevant that the Google street view image from October 2019 shows the same "now hiring sign" I walked under almost 2 years later.
The service was good, they only had 1 waitress show up. She did her best. The pizza was excellent
Great pizza great drinks. Service was ok. Inside is a little too dark
Served wrong order. Server and manager didn’t care. The workers were rude. Unseasoned chicken, I don’t get how you can mess up a salad. Waitress yelled at my daughter and was too stubborn to say a simple apology. Keep in mind don’t bring a dog they have to stay outside of a fence no matter how good they are. My dog was just sleeping and we have to wake him up to put him around the fence. After the experience I had to go through, I would give this zero stars if I could. If you are dropping your kids off to college avoid this place.
Their food was not bad, but it is not for me.
