This is definitely a place worth visiting. I got the Fish and Chips which was very delicious. I finished the entire plate with malt vinegar and the lemon slices. No ketchup was served, which means the fries were good enough to eat without.Although they seemed to lack a solid Porter or Stout selection, the Belgian ale I got there was excellent. Definitely a must-hit-once-food-stop of Berks County.
I haven't had the pleasure of visiting the pub, but, I have ordered and had delivered. The food is amazing. I am very picky about my crab meals. Ice had the ugly pretzel, crab dip and crab cake sandwich. All outstanding!!! Wish I could eat there more often. Major props and respect!!
Walked over from the Doubletree to have dinner before a show while attending the Berk’s County Jazz Festival. Restaurant is nice enough but seems more bar than restaurant. I had a draft beer from a large selection of beers. Some as inexpensive as $3. My wife had a glass of wine from a poor wine list as this is not a place for wine lovers. We both had their Shrimp Bisque to start. It was pretty good. We both had salads that came with our meals and these were good. My wife had their petite filet topped with blue cheese and mixed vegetables as a side. This dish was good and lots of veggies with the 4 ounce filet. I ordered the daily special which was a 20 ounce prime rib. It was impressive to look at with a mountain of fries. It was heavily seasoned and charred on both sides despite my ordering it medium. It was medium rare inside and it was mostly fat. For sure the worst prime rib I have ever had. Service wasn’t bad. But we were asked to buy candy to support the local softball team. We might go back someday but would stick with filet or try something else on the menu. We liked Judy’s on Cherry and The Peanut Bar better than the Ugly Oyster.
Newly-arrived in the Reading area, we decided to try the Ugly Oyster because the name is cool, and we love cool places. This place is a GEM -- the atmosphere is like a local pub, the food is DELICIOUS, the service was great, and we're already trying to get back in. Reservations recommended, though when we arrived and told them we had reservations they looked at us like we were speaking Swahili. Definitely a neighborhood place. Highly recommended, great seafood and drinks.
Hidden gem in Reading, at least for me. Finally decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. I had the blue point raw oysters as an appetizer and they are incredible, super fresh and delicious ? Opted for the fish and chips as an entree and they were on point! Lightly breaded well seasoned thick pieces of pollock fried to perfection? I love the old bar and the old school ambience. Perfect place on a cold winter day to sit by the fire and enjoy some good food?
Ugly Oyster is really pretty! I was a little bummed with the food - the scotch egg is not a runny center and their prime rib was a thin cut (still plenty of meat tho). The beers they have on tap are pretty good ones too! And they have fancy local mustards!
Awesome place. Super reasonable prices for draft beers ($6) and food (cheesesteaks - $11, portobello CRAB sandwich ($13) and everything was delicious. Nice ambiance, prompt staff. Would go again if I was in the area.
The food was amazing and the service was warm, friendly, and fantastic. We got the ugly pretzel and it did not disappoint. The crab and pretzel combination hit the spot. I got the fish and chips and the fries were amazing. The fish was flaky and the breading was just right.
The whole environment of this place feels filled with love and you can taste in the food too. Every moment from when we parked and saw the cute mural to when we walked back out with full happy bellies was absolutely pleasant. We ordered oysters, crab cakes and a beefsteak sandwich all which I would highly recommend!
Went here based on reviews and location since we were going to see a show at the Santander performing arts Center and it did not disappoint. We did not have reservations, didn't realize how small the place is and how popular. The bartender told us to hang tight someone may not show up and within a couple minutes she actually made us space at the bar which was perfect. We first ordered the fried shrimp and french fry appetizer. Delicious. The natural cut french fries are the best fries ever and I love my French fries. We then shared the salmon dinner and the petite filet. The salmon was perfectly cooked delicious, I would just add a little more of the dill sauce. The petite file was somewhat overcooked we wanted it medium but it was seasoned great and still tender. The place was packed but the service was fantastic will definitely go again. Oh and the parking across the street was so convenient we stayed there and walked up to the show.
