The Vandal is one of my absolute favorite places to dine in Pittsburgh! Every dish is outstanding, local quality ingredients and uniquely prepared. We started with the bread and butter, the oysters were so good, and the beef tartare was one of the best weâve ever had. I had the halibut and my husband had the chicken which were both good. We also tried both the chocolate torte and olive oil cake and loved both. The cocktails were also fabulous. The fresh flowers and candle on the table were a nice romantic touch. Only thing we didnât love was it was quite loud and music playing, which we didnât remember from previous visits. But it certainly would not stop us from returning in the future for another date night!
The Vandal is consistently great. They tweak their old dishes to make them better and add new interesting dishes as well. The Eggplant appetizer looked completely different than a few weeks ago and was just as tasty or better. I had the Gnocchi Sardi with Crab, Calabrian Chili and molica was great. I am usually not a big fan of heat, but it was just right and did not linger too long on my palette. My Wife had the Halibut with Safron sauce and summer squash and said the tasted ultra-fresh and perfectly cooked and she loved the sauce. the Chocolate Tart and that Whey Caramel was extremely tasty and not too rich. Service was spot on.
Too noisy - hard to hold a conversation. Gnocchi undercooked. Fish bland. Prices high.
Googled downtown restaurants open on Sunday night and the Vandal came up. I remembered hearing about it on the Pgh foodies Facebook pg, they had a reservation for 2 pre theater, and it was so good! I appreciated the small size of the restaurant, and the decor was lovely. The small menu might not suit some but I would much rather have 4 main dishes thoughtfully prepared than a million choices. Also, there were a large number of creative appetizers if you didn't care for the entree selections. Staff was very welcoming and attentive, and they all worked together so well. If our waiter was busy, the bartender would deliver. I pride myself on staying abreast of good restaurants but I missed this one. We will definitely return.
Family get together! Service was outstanding! Definitely go back soon Definitely recommend it to friends
Absolutely the best quality and friendly folks. Beautiful cocktails to boot!
Excellent food and craft cocktails! Highly recommend for any foodie. Great spot for friends and/or date night.
The Vandal was great again. The new eggplant appetizer was delicious and the reimagined Ricotta Fritters and the Rost chicken Dish beautiful, tasty and refreshing. Service was spot on, friendly and informative. Continue to love that the Vandal is open Sunday night.
Dinner was excellent, service was perfect & new renovation looks awesome!!
Full disclosure: one of the chefs at the Vandal is my friend and the drummer in my band, so he showed us a really phenomenal time. That said, eating at the Vandal was a beautiful and relaxing experience! Every dish we got to try was gorgeous, well-balanced, and delicious. There were stunning gluten free options, refreshing mocktails, and everyone was incredibly nice. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that the entree and appetizer pricing was not extravagant for this caliber of restaurantâmy husband and I have gone to many places in Pittsburgh with similar but less creative offerings and paid more for entrees than we did at the Vandal. Overall, I would recommend the Vandal alongside any fine dining restaurant in Pittsburgh for its delicious food, unique menu, and intimate dining experience. We will definitely be back.
