Great atmosphere, nice service and amazing drinks! Food is nothing less than incredible, but portions will be on the smaller side.
The roasted cauliflower dish was INCREDIBLE and the crispy potatoes are every time.Mixed drink was delicous. Service was excellent. The Panna cotta was stellar.
Great atmosphere. Fairly priced. food and bar beverages for brunch were worth the price. Easy to get to with the Mellon Square parking garage nearby. (Pictured Breakfast hash winter vegetables, duck leg, potato eggs., Pub burger with shoestring fries. )*Make a reservation*
The wait was worth the quality of the food and drinks. The bartender was very knowledgeable in how the drinks were made, pork belly was crisp and tender, and I love they had the duck already cut up.
Stayed at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco for a getaway weekend and the staff recommending trying The Commoner. We listened and wanted to go for every meal for the rest of the trip! My friends and I split the gnocchi and crispy potatoes while sipping fabulous cocktails and sours and each time we took a sip or bite we threw our heads back in utter delight. The bartenders were observant and helpful without seeming insincere. At the end of our night I really wanted to try the creme brulee and the gentleman recommended a port that paired excellently with it. Unfortunately the only item I remembered to snap a pic of was the dessert, but it was lovely. Would definitely recommend The Commoner to anyone seeking a unique and fun place in Pittsburgh!
Had a lovely dinner as well as breakfast here during my stay at Hotel Monaco. The gnocchi and burger were wonderful but the real star was the breakfast sandwich and accompanying "Bloody Larry". Superb recommendations and service by Art, Celeste, and the host staff. Well worth the higher price for knowledgeable finer dining service and a perfectly curated meal. Don't miss this spot!
The commoner maybe a bit pricey but it is definitely worth it. The menu is small and effective. When you come here it's not for the portion size but for the quality, the atmosphere and the amazing décor. The service is always great and in my multiple times here I have never had a bad experience. Try out their cocktails and if you don't find something you like the bartender will definitely create something for you.
Came for brunch with a medium sized group. Service may run a little slow on busy days, but that was fine for us. Everyone we interacted with was super friendly. The food is delicious, I recommend getting a few different plates to share. The chicken and waffles with hot honey was a fan favorite. They have some good cocktails as well, we enjoyed the "Bloody Larry". Overall a great place to come for some good food and a good time with friends.
Really enjoyed our dinner here. I was so/so on going to a restaurant that is in the same building with a hotel and Biergarten. The staff were dressed very nice, with some guests in suits and others in under armor t shirts. It was a little odd seeing such a broad spectrum of fashion sense hah. Anyways, the dishes we had were great: crispy potatoes, beef tartare, fried pork chop, the smash burger, and a cheesecake custard. Cocktails were interesting and we enjoyed the ones we got. All in all, we would go back. Close to a parking garage which is very nice considering a downtown location.
I took my family to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. The drinks were ok, but with excessive ice. The waitresses were kind and were doing their best, despite being understaffed. The food (cavatelli) was extremely salty. I could barely taste anything else. The fries on the burger others ordered were also super salty. I understand it is still tough times due to COVID but if your guests are going to have board-walking drinking and cooking-school food experience, price accordingly and we will know the risks to judge for ourselves. Tone down the salt and ground pepper chefs!
