ANOTHER FOODIE’S GEM. A cozy restaurant with pleasant ambiance. TRULY AUTHENTIC REGIONAL CHINESE CUISINE, looks very popular with Chinese emigres/visitors and Chinese Americans. It looks busy at both lunch and supper. It’s truly a dining experience. It has a longish menu that one can enjoy over several visits, as I (and few colleagues) have done. None of that horrible greasy salty sugared Americanized Chinese-like food that is so common. Savor the true Szechuan cuisine: silken sauces, spices and different peppers, tender juicy meats, fresh vegetables, various rich textures.Recommendations as of August 2022: Bokchoy & black mushrooms, Sichuan eggplant, Spicy Lamb in a pot (silk sauce with vegs & lotus roots), Kung Pao Chicken (crunchy with kick), King Mushrooms with basil (“meaty” vegetarian in a well balanced light sauce), Cumin Lamb (it literally wakes up the palate, uniquely dry sautéed that goes with any sauced veggie entree), my favorite so far: Crispy Pork Shoulder, amazingly tender meat with skin falling off the bone and a rich sauced mixed veggie) — And yes don’t forget the hot black, which freshens the palate between bites from different dishes.Large servings, best shared between 2-3 people, OR take home for another meal.Very highly recommended!?

Authentic Sichuan Food. Highly recommend the grilled whole fish with special flavor.

Squirrel Hill has a ton of fantastic Chinese places, and I can now include Sichuan Gourmet among the top tier that I've dined in. Sichuan Gourmet isn't a "quick bite" sort of restaurant: the difference between a $10 restaurant and a $20 restaurant is huge, and Sichuan Gourmet is squarely a quality $20 restaurant.Basil chicken was delicious. There was actually a good number of basil leaves (unlike some other places that only put 2-3 basil leaves per serving). I also got their stir-fry bok choy as a vegetable side, and it was crunchy, green, and delicious--not soggy or limp or brown at all.

Not good at all. We ordered takeout from here and I got the kung pao tofu, it was so bland and there was very little sauce. We also tried the cheese rangoon and they were alright but definitely did not make up for the rest of the meal.

We have never been disappointed with any dish ordered. There are tons of Asian cuisine restaurants closer than this to us, but Sichuan Gourmet is always worth the trip. Great way to try real traditional Chinese dishes (especially if you like it spicy), but their Americanized options are at least as good as anywhere else. We always look forward to our next trip and trying something new!

Was told that it would only take 5-10 minutes to be seated, but waited over half an hour. Also, a party of two came in twenty minutes after us and was seated before us when we were also a party of two. Very biased customer service!

The double cooked pork belly is my favorite, but ive never had a bad meal from here! Definitely my go-to when im craving something tasty and a little spicy

Pittsburgh flavor food is very good and tasty. Staff is friendly and ambience is nice. I will recommend this place to folks who like any mild flavoured chinese food. I haven't tried their authentic flavor Chinese food. I will visit this place again.

Amazing genuine Szechuan food. I got the sliced pork in hot broth and Dan Dan noodles and I literally ate four meals on it for ~20 bucks. I loved the flavors and the amount of Szechuan peppercorn used. My wife got the beef and broccoli and pork fried rice and it was so delicious. Perfect fried rice.

Rude, indifferent, and unresponsive: Although their food is unremarkable, I ordered a simple takeout order because the restaurant was convenient to my other shopping. I was told that the two items - lo mein and eggplant would require 20-25 minutes . But it still was not ready after a half hour had passed, and still not ready after three quarters of an hour. The restaurant was full of people waiting for long overdue orders, but no one - including the manager - spoke to any of us. In fact, they refused to respond to questions. The employee at the desk continually spoke on the phone and waved away any inquiries. After an hour, I insisted that she refrain from speaking on the phone long enough to refund my money, which she finally did, without one word of apology or explanation to any of the customers. I have never seen such disregard and outright rudeness to customers, and I would never set foot in there again.
