I grew up in Puerto Rico as a child and have been yearning for some food from my youth for MANY years. When I first heard that Secretos was opening up in Pittsburgh, not far from me, I was SO excited. Ordered dinner tonight for my mom, wife and me tonight and…it was so amazingly authentic and nostalgic that we almost cried happy tears. Between the pastelillos, mofongo, pernil, pollo guisado, tostones, maduros, rice and red beans…OMG…so satisfying. If you’ve never tried Puerto Rican food, or haven’t had it in a while, now is the time. You won’t be disappointed.

This review was difficult for me because there were a lot of factors I wasn’t expecting that ended up effecting it. First of all I want to say the staff was super nice and friendly and I had a nice time eating here. I ordered the pulled pork based on recommendation from the guy taking my order. The pictured food is the chimichurri steak with rice and beans, which my brother ordered. What I didn’t like so much about my experience was the amount I paid for the quality and quantity of food I received. I think the food was good, but not great and a bit too salty (and I rarely say this because I love salt lol). The other three people I was with agreed; it was simply over-seasoned. As for the price, I ordered the build-your-own dish for both me and my girlfriend and then decided to go back to get us two side salads. The side salads were in a very small container and I ended up paying $12 dollars for a little bit of lettuce and a couple slices of tomato. I paid a total of $45 for the two of us and that didn’t even include a drink (we were very thirsty after eating the salty food). I understand the prices of food are rising, and I have no problem paying if the food I receive is worth it, but unfortunately in my honest opinion the food I received did not match the price that I paid. I saw the reviews and pictures online before coming, and was excited to get my fix of Latin food, but I don’t feel as if though this place lived up to the ratings that it currently has. I unfortunately need to be honest in my assessment, so for now I’m going to have to go with three stars. This was a difficult review but our hungry party of four reached a mutual consensus and landed on this. Maybe I’ll return and give this place another try in the future. I will say that if you’re in the area, and you’re craving Latin food, this is still a worthy restaurant to fulfill those needs, just don’t expect to be blown away for the price.

As soon as I took a bite of the pollo guisado it took me home! It reminded so much of my mom's! Truly authentic Puerto Rican food with a great staff to complement it! We felt so welcomed. Not to mention the place was very clean! Highly recommend to anyone!

I love the ambiance of the establishment. Front desk person, Kevin was friendly and helpful with order suggestions. The food was so tasty and flavorful! Portion size of my order fit the price. Authentic PR cuisine is absolutely delicious! I can taste the freshness of the ingredients used in my meal. I don't know what that green stuff was on the side of my meal but my goodness was it so good! Definitely makes you want more! I will certainly be a happy returning customer!

The food is soooooo good. I ordered the arroz con gandules, pollo guisado, and tostones along with a pastellito. I’m from the Caribbean and the food reminded me of home. Friendly service and great prices!

They deserve every star and then some! Food so fresh and flavorful! Vegetarian friendly, affordable and delicious… I’m not a big cake person but I’m so happy that I tried the cake lol

Authentic Puerto Rican food just minutes from Duquesne University. We had the “create your own” where you can pick from a preparation of Arroz con Habichuela, Arroz con Gandules, or Mofongo (rice and pink beans / rice and pigeon peas / smashed plantains shaped into a bowl, respectively) then add your protein like pork, shrimp, chicken, or steak lastly, you pick a side. I got the Mofongo with carne frita, and Madurai. It was delicious and just like my wife’s Puerto Rican grandmother made! Definitely hitting this place up again.

$70 dollars worth of food, not one Hispanic cooked it. Presentation was absolutely terrible. A sit down meal served in Styrofoam. Not only do you not get your monies worth, but the puerto rican flavor is completely absent. We ate because we were starving and traveled a long way expecting 4 plus stars. It deserves none for the price

Food was delicious and there was plenty of it! Loved the mofongo and pernil, the yuca frites were delightful and the flan is some of the best I've ever had. Orders were up quickly and the staff was friendly and helpful. 10/10 recommend
