This is my absolute favorite restaurant! It is such a hidden gem in West View. My family’s go to order is West View Roll, Coconut Chicken Curry, Kone Baung Pork, and Thai Iced Tea. It is all so amazing and if I could I would eat it every night if the week!Picture of our almost finished meal since we never get pictures before digging in.
We love their pickled tea leaf salad or the pickled ginger salad, very classic Burmese ingredients that are delicious and healthy but very hard to make myself here. The fish noodle soup (Mohingar) is very good as is the vegetable curry. Love the unusual-for-US golden cake, Shwe Ji, as another Burmese classic. Nice, family-run restaurant with reasonable prices and good service. We eat in or get take out.
A truly excellent restaurant in West View. I ordered the golden shwe ji (semolina cake), Pad Thai, tofu fritters, and fresh spring roll. Everything was reasonably priced and had great portions. The Pad Thai had both shrimp and chicken, which I always appreciate! I asked for the plate without scallions, and they honored that request. The noodles were still warm when I got them and the portion was amazing. Plenty of chicken (a few shrimps, too), but not too much. The sauce was lightly sweet and flavorful. My only criticism would be that there weren't enough peanuts, but that's a minor point. The two appetizers I got were both great. The roll is filled well with lots of veggies, and it's a great healthy option. The dipping sauce is chunkier than usual, but has a great balance of sweet and savory. The tofu fritters are delightful. Slightly spicy sauce, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. They don't have a strong flavor, but I'd say these chickpea fritters are significantly better than regular tofu fritters. Finally, I fell in love with the semolina cake. It reminded me of the dessert I had at Spice Island Tea House. The raisins were a nice touch. The portion is fantastic for just $5! Creamy, sweet, soft, and warm. Absolutely perfect. All in all, I'd return here again when in West View. In fact, I'd recommend going out of your way to drive 30 Minutes if you have to because the food is so good and they have unique menu items! I look forward to more shwe ji and trying some satay, samosas, bread pudding, and other items.
We’d been here before, shortly after Royal Myanmar opened…maybe even twice…and were rather disappointed. But that was then, we’d since heard good things about it, and decided we should try it again. If we were disappointed again, we’d chalk it up to different tastes, and move on.We were rewarded with a very tasty, very attractive and very generous meal. My soup choice, Ohn-no Kwe Sew (a chicken noodle soup with other items, in a coconut milk broth, including a crispy fried bean and scallions sides, added at my option, was just incredible…and large enough that I probably could have considered my main entreé. Following that was a Spicy Basil Beef dish, which was, at a spice level of 4 out of 10, still too spicy to enjoy the more subtle flavors…and, perhaps compared to the Ohn-no Kwe Sew, just middling. My partner’s sushi looked beautiful, was plentiful and really a good deal.I will note that the coffee (rather unexpected in an Asian restaurant, at that) was instant, which only was obvious because it was mixed too strong. Having asked, and had confirmed, that it was instant, probably freeze-dried, I’d asked for a bit less strong….and really found it satisfactory (and I like my coffee strong). There are also several kinds of teas offered. The place is pleasant enough, having apparently had a remodel since we last went. Nothing special, but attractive enough. This place is almost within walking distance for us. Why we didn’t go back earlier? Well, that’s not going to happen again.
If you want tyranny, go ahead and stay here! Thanks but no thanks ? I refuse to give MY HARD EARNED MONEY to people who make you show your jab card! I support all restaurants and hotels who are against this intrusive forum of compliance!
Very impressed!! Some of the best Thai food / sushi I have had in a long time!
Fair prices, more authentic than I know how to cook. Decent service, but make sure to ask for it spicy if you like it hot!
Consistent quality in food and great service
Visited Pittsburgh from Columbus, and since I'm such a Burmese food fan, I decided to stop in. Got the Royal Myanmar roll and the spicy beef curry, as well as the appetizer sampler to share. The curry was rich and flavorful as I've come to expect, and the chicken satay was positively amazing. Will definitely make this spot part of my regular rounds when I come back to the Iron City.
This was the most disgusting food I have ever had. Save your money and go to a fast food joint instead. I wouldn’t even feed it to a dog.
