Awesome setting, fantastic food
First, I am not vegan. I am an omnivore committed to delicious food of any kind. So I didn’t have high hopes for food that is mostly defined by what is not in it.I am delighted to say I was wrong. Wrong with a capital Wr. The food has a satisfying mix of textures, heavy on the umami and they aren’t afraid to deep fry some tater tots. I would come here for any meal, not just a when I feel compelled to be virtuous. My omnivore soul is happy.
Small seating area but fabulous food. Go early because it gets crowded and don't forget that it's cash only. I'm vegan but even if I wasn't I'd still go there. The tater tots are unexpectedly flavorful but never greasy. I had The Woods and I wish I could have ordered a second bowlful. The forbidden rice, kale, and the tofu are outstanding together. Cannot wait to go back.
I am not vegan, but my visiting in-laws are. We took them to this restaurant, and everything on the menu was so delicious and packed with flavor that I will be coming back on my own even when the in-laws aren't visiting! This is by far some of the best food I've had in the burgh. I see only 5 star reviews from sane people! Believe them.
Wonderful vegan food, friendly staff!
When we planned our trip to Pittsburgh from Connecticut and NW PA, Onion Maiden was on our "Must Experience but if we don't have time it's cool" list. Well... in our entire trip this was hands down the BEST food we experienced! The dumplings, the noodles, and the cashew cheesecake were GLORIOUS and the service was fantastic. I recommend O.M.
Wish I had know of this place earlier. They have great selection of food. Good music, nice staff, vegan. Damn, it's can't get better. It's a cozy place with limited seating which makes it special in a way. After we got it, there was big que outside the door. I will go back again.
Excellent vegan food. Danger Noodles, Coffins, any of the loaded tots, and Sweet Leaf cake are favorites. I really miss the online ordering/takeout the way it used to be over most of the pandemic (to be able to order the specials/dessert online) but I get that they're trying to focus on bringing back the main dine-in business. I don't really miss eating in small, crowded restaurants, but do miss getting weekly takeout from here! Either way, the food is great and I would recommend if you're vegan or not.
We might have liked this place, but signs on the door wanted patrons to show proof of COVID vaccines. So we didn't go in. Masks, I can certainly wear if the establishment requests. But I do not casually carry my proof of vaccination or boosters.
Awesome food. Weird covid restrictions which seem like a political stance at this point in the pandemic. No masks on planes but I need one to walk in the door and then I can take it off two feet in the door and sit with 5 other maskless people at a shared table? Just seems ridiculous. this is coming from someone who is vaccinated and who was knocking on heavens door from the Ronda in early 2020. Two stars for making it feel like they didn’t want or need our business.
