As a korean dish lover, I definitely don’t recommend it. Our two girls eat about 100 dollars, it’s not a cheap meal. But the octopus hot pot did not have much taste, and no water and other basic service.
My friends and I had dinner here for the third time over the weekend. Like always, the food was exceptional. We shared appetizers and main courses, and there's nothing I tasted that doesn't deserve a full 5-stars.I read many 1-star reviews that criticized the owner/manager of the restaurant. She's blunt, and she's efficient, but I never found her to be rude. She's an old-school, no-nonsense kind of person, and I respect that. If you're pushy with her during the evening rush, I wouldn't be surprised if she told you (in no uncertain terms) that you need to wait. If you bring five kids who trash her restaurant, I wouldn't be surprised if she made you clean it up.In my opinion, this is a cultural difference in which many people believe the "customer is always right" and is entitled to cheerful service, whether or not you're a respectful patron. I disagree with this mentality. The customer is not always right, and they are not entitled to bring five kids who treat a restaurant like a battle ground. (That review really rubbed me the wrong way.)If you agree with me, I think you'll love this place. If you don't, this might not be your cup of tea. You may want to consider going elsewhere if you're a demanding patron who (1) thinks tables magically appear at 6:00 PM on a Saturday or (2) expects special treatment while your kids throw kimchi through a wood chipper.
If you’re looking for authentic Korean food, this is the place to go. On the outside it might look rather unassuming, but the inside is actually very nice looking. There’s not a lot of seating, but if you manage to get in it is well worth the effort. Service is quick, portions are big, and the food is INSANE! There’s a wide variety of dishes to choose from, and I’ve yet to have one that I didn’t like.I saw some other reviews complaining about the staff being rude, but I’m not sure where they’re coming from. They can sometimes come across as a bit curt, but you have to keep in mind that they’re usually pretty busy and can’t afford to waste time with small talk—that being said, my dad managed to strike up a conversation with the owner about her hometown, and she seems like a very sweet woman. In general, this place is one of my favorite restaurants around, and though I generally only eat here for special occasions, it’s always a great time.
The food is good and its the only reason that this restaurant has a star. The attitude of the Korean lady is horrible, she will make disappointed sound if you think or discuss for even a second when ordering. When we asked her for an empty plate, she sighed. This restaurant doesn’t offer any water, if you want to drink water, you have to pay for the bottled ones.Anyway, even though I don’t want to give out any tips, they include it in the check. Never ever go to this restaurant again! The food is good but the service is unbearable.
The brisket is absolutely delicious!
Female owner (?) very brusque. Greasy dumplings, bean sprouts taste like they were cooked in dishwater, meat in the main dish filled with grizzle. Never again!
Nak Won Garden is my favorite Korean Restaurant in Pittsburgh! It’s located on the 5500 block of Centre Avenue just a short walk from the Giant Eagle Market District in Shadyside. The restaurant has a clean, cozy seating area with prompt service and authentic food. My go-to starter is the vegetarian Pan Jun followed by Dolsot Bibimbap with tofu as my main dish. If you’re in and around Pittsburgh, be sure to enjoy a meal here!
I went here for my birthday and it was amazing!! I taught in Korea for 2 years and haven’t had Korean food that tasted this good since I left. I saw comments on here saying the older Korean lady pushed dishes on you. She did make suggestions, but never felt pushy. It’s also to make sure you’re ordering enough for the table to share and eat. The kimchi was delicious . We had bulgogi, dumplings, stew, and yaki udon. There was very little left when we were done. Nak Won Garden was actually suggested on Reddit and I’m so happy we tried it!! I will be going back. Thanks for great service and food.
What a gem to discover in Pittsburgh❣️❣️❣️ The service was very nice and the food was authentically spectacular ??? I had Yaki Udon chicken and tofu, chili wings and beef bulgogi (not pictured but delicious). All the dishes came out hot and fresh...the tea is a authentic, house specialty blend with notes of toasted jasmine. You'll want to try everything once you've tried it the first time. Haven't had anything like this since leaving LA and dining in Koreatown. You'll love Nak Wan Garden, I did?? YUM!!
I got the pork belly and it was EXCELLENT! I'll definitely be going back and trying out other items on their menu. The wings are good too!
