Modern Cafe is the perfect little neighborhood bar and grill. This was our first visit. The food was good, the restaurant was clean but most importantly, the staff was excellent! Friendly and accommodating. We will be back soon!
Very good food, although the parking can be tough. It's certainly possible there is parking available nearby that I am not aware of. They have a full bar here, and decently priced drinks.I had a Greek steak hoagie. Which was very good. Also tasted the vegetarian Greek wrap, surprisingly good as well. Only disappointment is all sides must be purchased separately. We will definitely be back.
Just love this gem. Unassuming, friendly, good beer selection and delicious food. I dunno who the cook/chef is but he's so talented. We come back regularly and love the 1930's art deco styling of the joint, it's a beautiful space and well maintained, I'm just mad I forgot to order the baclava this last time we stopped in for dinner ?. It's delicious!
Food is worth half the menu price. Basic food, basic portions, no free sides, meh. Should’ve ordered from Smallman’s. Now THAT is a sandwich worth two hours of minimum wage 16$. This Reuben I just ate from Modern? I would’ve been happy with it at a 10 dollar price point with complimentary fries and soda. Maybe the restaurant has a high rent to pay and they put that into the food prices.
My husband and I dined here before a concert at Stage AE. We both got the Gyro Melt, and absolutely recommend it - surprisingly tender. I also enjoyed a Negroni cocktail that included Wigle in its concoction. Will return!
The gyro sandwich and fries were decent, but this place is way more pricey than it looks.
The Modern Cafe may not be much to look at on the outside, but the bar/lounge area inside is very nice and the staff is friendly and personable. I had The Spartan, a sandwich that apparently won a contest some years back. It was delicious, and as the bartender said, it was a massive sandwich! I believe his exact words were "the only thing you need after that sandwich is a nap!" He was right...
Family owned restaurant with great food. A few dishes have there own Greek flare. The staff is very friendly and do a fine job. Just minutes from the stadiums.
I have always liked this place. It's really got a great early 20th century retro vibe. The draft list is respectable, and the food is solid. It's more than a little out of the way for me, but I am not holding that against the establishment, though. Service can be hit or miss, in my experience, but maybe they weren't having a good day. I wish I could give it 4.5 stars, because there's nothing wrong, it's just not my favorite.
