A culinary highlight of our Pittsburgh trip. The savory herb scone was so delicious. We ate them in the Jeep then went back in to get more. We bought a loaf of bread as a gift for Nonna. The sweet pastries were also amazing. Can't wait to go again next July.
The quality of baked good is phenomenal, but they sell out so quickly. I was hoping for some city-scale hustle in my neighborhood bakery. Waiting in line for ten minutes only to find out most of the things I want are gone has happened every. Single. Time. I have tried to go here. And while I understand cultivating some sense of scarcity is a good way to get people excited for your product, you do need to deliver on that excitement often enough to keep people happy. Before moving to Pitt I'd spent many breakfasts grabbing food and sandwiches and coffee to go at La Gourmandine in Larryville, and I wish Madeline's had a little more of the bustle that La Gourmandine's has. Are the lunch sandwiches a hot item? Maybe have a lunch cart outside during nice weather to get people who just want a snack on the road a bit quicker. The baked goods are excellent, but the atmosphere/service/pacing and scale are all a bit more precious than I had hoped when I chose to live in this neighborhood to have proximity to a quality city bakery. I want to frequent this place, I just need a little more consistency and ease.
Great service staff! They recommended calling in advance if you have an order that involves specific baked goodsVery kind folks!Service is one person at a time while everyone waits in a line outside and you’re required to wear a mask!I got the chocolate croissants and scones and a cake that’s like a lava cake and that was great!
Best bakery in the Burgh! I didn't expect them to have coffee or outside seating, many bakeries do not. Madeleine's had both. Plus delicious pastries made with care.
Went possibly on an off day. The selection left looked amazing. Nice pricing. Items bought were great. Shout out to the scones!Definitely coming back to try more!
A vibrant little French bakery with absolutely scrumptious pastry in generous portion sizes. The courtyard is perfect for enjoying your treats! Note their hours and that only one person is permitted in at a time (so be prepared to wait in line outside). I wish they had tea lattes but otherwise this is a total gem!
My daughter and I stopped in to get a quick bite to eat. It's a good sign when there is little left of fresh baked items....it forced me to buy a pastry I normally wouldn't buy. What a pleasant surprize! It was almond, custard filled bites of deliciousness! We also bought gazpacho soup. Honestly...best gazpacho soup I've eaten and it was the perfect temperature. We took this "to go", but there are bistro tables and chairs set up outside.
Madeline has to be the best bakery in the city. Everything is absolutely phenomenal and really drives home the concept of eating with your eyes. I, personally, always get a ham and butter sandwich, chocolate croissant and a Danish, plus whatever else looks delicious that day and it's always excellent. I can't talk about Madeline without also talking about the staff, who are all just the kindest humans. It's a whole experience going there.
Amazing. I have never received a pastry from Madeleine that I didn't immediately become best friends with <3 The best french bakery that can be found in Pittsburgh, in my humble opinion. The cookies, the danish, the canele, the sandwiches and bread: all amazing and freshly baked. It is worth the outside wait, even in the dead of winter. I advise you give it a try!
I try really hard to support local, small businesses. I went out of my way on the way to a meeting to pick up treats for the team. I was practically screamed at upon (trying) to enter because there was someone else in the shop (I could not see that before entering, nor was I aware of the rule). I went back to my car to get the required mask, but thought, I am clearly not local and not welcome, and drove away. Sad.
