I had a hard time deciding between ordering food from the Silk Elephant or Kiin Lao, but ultimately I went with the latter because of their unique Lao roots. I tried some of the food from the Bangkok Balcony menu, including the Pad Thai with tofu (spice level 0) and Thai custard with coconut sticky rice. This is without a doubt one of the best Pad Thai's I've had in Pittsburgh. The portion is huge, especially comparing it to some of the places I've tried in Edgewood. Probably enough for 2 meals for most people. There was more than plenty of tofu in this pad Thai, but you did have to pay extra for it and the price is a bit on the high side (depending on which online ordering platform you use). There were loads of peanuts in here, and you could actually taste them and feel their crunch (unlike in many other places). You can also taste and see the egg, which I really enjoyed. Plus the bean sprouts were so fresh and crispy, and the food was still hot when it arrived to my house. Their sauce is flavorful and delicious. The Pad Thai isn't saucy but not dry either. More generous with sauce than some Thai spots, but I'd still want a little more (I love saucy Pad Thai). Then, I tried their Thai custard. It was very tasty. Also, it had an unique and visually appealing color scheme: black rice with green custard. The rice was sticky (as it should be) and the custard was sweet and comforting. I love how they served the coconut milk on the side! I drank some of it before pouring it over the custard, and wow, it's fantastic. A touch of saltiness, some sweetness, creamy, and just amazing. Great final touch to this dish. All in all, I would definitely recommend Kiin Lao/Bangkok Balcony for their Thai food, and their Lao food sounds incredible as well. The Pad Thai was served in a huge portion and it was delicious. The Thai custard was also excellent.
great food and service. the price is reasonable comparing to the portion. i had papaya combo. the sticky rice is cooked well. ping kai is very tasty, a bit salty but super yummy when eating with sticky rice and papaya salad. i ordered spice level 8 out of 10 but it is not spicy at all. maybe it's just me. it was really warm during the sunny day to sit by the window. the restaurant is on the 2nd floor and you have to take the stairs to get in no ramp or elevator for wheelchairs.
Food was good, but not worth the hour wait to actually get it. It’s forgivable if the waiter checks up on you or says something, but it was just a long wait to the point that I and my girlfriend had to leave. My family packaged her food. Never coming back here.If I could leave 0 stars I would. There’s an Asian place across the street with much faster service and just as good food, go there instead. And don’t blame this on “Corona”. Either pay your staff so you actually have some or find better staff. If you look at the reviews for here, you’ll see a negative review with poor service mentioned. And a bunch of positive reviews. Don’t overlook these complaints when making your “eating out” choice.
I’m Laotian and I know how Laotian food should be. They’re always very rude in the restaurant and bad service, they pretty much treat you with disregard if you have a darker skin complexion, and if it’s not true then why do they treat only some people a certain way? Well on to the food , I ordered chicken laab and it was not good , too much fish sauce not enough herb. Also , it says the chicken laab is made from chicken thigh which is not true because there was NO dark meat or skin , this was just chicken breast!! Also they gave me a large portion of laab but they only gave me a small palm size sticky rice!! Like a snack amount of rice not a meal amount!!! Way more laab than rice ! Snack portion sticky rice. This place has gone down hill and it’s sad for the small amount of Laotian people in Pittsburgh, you fail to serve quality and real lao food. Probably have CAUCASIAN kitchen staff because this ain’t it. I contacted Uber eats and got my money back! If this isn’t what I ordered then it’s getting reported and I got my refund! This ain’t laab! Make it correctly, some of us are actually Lao!
We had the Crispy Rice Salad which was delicious with great texture (like a turbo lettuce wrap). Brussel sprouts was very good and addictive. Pumpkin Curry and Crab Fried Rice were both favorful. Definitely returning to this restaurant.
Service needs improvement. They did not provide us with cutlery or glasses of water. When they brought our food, we still had no cutlery and had to get out of our seats to ask for some. Then, they did not ask if we were paying separately and just put down the check without asking if we were ready to pay. I had to flag her down later after they ignored us so that the bill could be split. Really awful service, and there was only one other table being served in the whole restaurant. It is all really unfortunate because the food was excellent. However, now I'm not sure if I will go back. I would hate to have to use third party delivery services just to get to taste their food. I hope this restaurant can do better in the future.
What a fabulous meal. Pad See Ew is 10/10. Laab is great too. Will bring more people next time so there are more dishes to share ?
Veey authentic, they have some menu items you can't find in other Thai restaurants, only Thailand/Isaan. Everything was delicious!
Som Tum was so good...And really liked their green curry.
Food was fantastic. I got a Tom kha soup (not listed on the menu, I just asked and they accommodated - they took some shortcuts but it was still delicious), a red curry soup, and the crab fried rice. Everything was delicious. The low rating is because it seemed like the servers forgot about our table for a while, and it took over an hour to get our small order, on a night when the restaurant was half empty.
