Me and my buddy decide to celebrate our graduation. He has never tried soul food yet, so we decide to come here. It is open at 12 pm but almost fully booked, so do remember to make a reservation in advance.Chicken & Sweet Potato Waffle is delicious. My buddy finished every single piece of them.My Smoked Pork Spare Ribs is authentic and delicious. A slightly charred skin, sweet BBQ sauce, mixed greens and Mac & Cheese, typical and iconic for a soul food dish. My buddy tried my ribs and mixed greens; he loved them as much as I do.
I think this is a good soul food restaurant that appeals to the masses. Every family’s soul food is a little different. It must be extremely difficult to appeal to a variety of palates. I felt like their goal was keep the taste right in the middle. So for the average person it will probably be really great, but For someone that has been to a lot of soul food restaurants in this country, it’s will be ok.Would this be a place I would go out of my way for? Probably not. The Parking on east Carson Street alone would deter me.A couple members of my party have been here before. I noticed two of them ordered their fried food hard. I probably should have done the same because I would like my chicken and fish to be fried crisper. Keep that in mind, if you like your food crisper. We sampled each other dishes, everything was good, their macaroni and cheese stuck out to me as the best side.The service was top notch, Ashley and the woman working the front room with her, really worked hard to make sure you had an enjoyable evening. I really do appreciate great customer service. We all had a great time.3.5 out of 5 for the food5 out 5 for the service.
Authentic soul food, great service!! The cornbread and cornbread stuffing is delicious, will bring you back to Grandmas kitchen!!! The chicken and sweet potato waffles are delicious, it tastes like Sunday dinner with the family and the art work is phenomenal, the service and atmosphere makes you feel right at home!! Go and enjoy a meal by yourself or with family!! They will make you feel right at home!! ❤❤
Our family traveled to Pittsburgh for a sporting event. Afterwards, I was in the mood for some "GOOD" Soul Food.Since this was unfamiliar territory, I asked the hotel staff for a recommendation. He referred me to another place (Soul and Sea). I'll provide a review of them another time.We went to Downtown Pittsburgh, only to find blocks of restaurants and bars. We walked up and down for awhile trying decide where to eat. We stumbled across Carmi and decided to give it a try.This is a clean, small, quaint place. We had a large party, so we had to sit in separate booths. This didn't suit us, so we left for another place down the street. Well, it wound up that some of our party left. So, we returned to Carmi. Oh My Goodness!!!!!! Were we glad to have done so......This place is "PHENOMENAL".... The food was outstanding!! The portions were beyond expectation and the place had a nice atmosphere. There is also a small bar to satisfy One's thirst.The FOOD: There was NO shortage of Cornbread. It was moist and had a hint of sugar. My Porkchops were cooked to perfection, along w/ the Collards and Yams.My other family members had Chicken and Waffles, Ribs w/ Mac and Cheese. Delicious!!!!!Let's not forget the portions. All of us had enough food leftover for another day.The STAFF: As good as the meals. They were very welcoming, accommodating, courteous, professional and friendly. The staff wears masks, however you're not required to.PRICING: Very reasonable. Especially, for the amount of food received.Our visit was a VERY enjoyable experience. The food was so good! Portion size was decent for the price!! The atmosphere was fun with karaoke upstairs!! loved it will be back again!!!!

Just went for the first time today! The food, the service, the location, the atmosphere .... all was excellent! I got the Carmi platter with chicken wings, catfish and 3 sides!! It was amazing!! My hubby go the ribs and loved it. We will return
