From having eaten at the restaurant and picked up, there is a BIG difference in quality between the two. The food is pretty oily, which is a lot less of a problem at the restaurant but means it ends up being pretty greasy if you have to travel with your order. If I could give 4 stars for in-house and 2 for pickup I would, but as is I’ll have to settle for averaging them.
Zorba’s Tavern is my favorite Greek restaurant in Philadelphia and one of my overall favorite restaurants in the entire city. I have been here countless times, eating both indoors and outdoors. The ambiance is very warm and cozy, with lovely accents of Greek culture. The food is outstanding and the servers are always very kind and welcoming. The portions are very generous and the flavor is always worth the price. If you cannot decide on what to order, my personal favorites and recommendations are: the grilled octopus (best dish in the restaurant) and the cold spread sampler for appetizers, and then the grilled sampler for one and the saganaki cheese (which is lit on fire in the middle of the restaurant, creating a spectacle for everyone to enjoy) for entrees. If you are in the Fairmount neighborhood of the city or are just looking for some fantastic Greek food, please check out Zorba’s Tavern!
Authentic Greek food in Philly ? you know it’s good when the food takes a bit to come out. Their appetizers are so good. I have no complaints. Also, I love feta. Greek food is supreme. Also outdoor dining! I would come here again and again.
The food is delicious Greek authentic
Zorbas is a great stop for delicious food. It tastes like food my mom would make (if she was Greek that is) and we love coming. It's BYOB, so keep that in mind! They're great with GF options too, if that's something you need!
We had dinner last night the food and service were very good. Started with the Grilled Octopus and Mussels in red wine with Feta cheese both were great. Octopus was tender and the mussels were different than we ever had. The Lamb shank with Artichokes and egg lemon sauce was also so tender and the sauce really flavorful. The classic roasted leg of lamb was ok very dry. Our waiter asked how everything was and I told him it was too dry and he asked if there was anything he could do. I told him if I could get some of the sauce that was on my wife’s shank maybe it would help. He came back in a minute and I poured it over the lamb and it made all the difference in the world. We had the Greek coffee which was an experience and took home 4 desserts. Will definitely be back.
This place is the definition of consistency. I have been eating here for a decade and it’s always delicious and reasonably priced. I’m surprised I didn’t leave a review years ago. I’m leaving one today because this weekend I stopped in and asked to buy a loaf of their awesome bread. They refused to sell me one, and gave it to me for free! I feel lucky to have a restaurant like this in my neighborhood!
Enjoyed a family lunch here. Was really nice that were able to get in without a reservation. Ordered a sampling of dips and a gyro. Took a bit for the food to main dishes to arrive but we were a larger group. Everything tasted fresh. Always nice to have the option to BYOB too!
When I lived near Philly, I used to get to Zorba's frequently. On a recent trip back, I headed straight there. As a matter of fact, I ate there two of the three days I was in town. The food is still good and the wait staff friendly. The atmosphere is old Philly: while it may be not be chic for millennials, it has a charm that is only enhanced with one of their desserts. Opa.
A Greek oasis in a wonderful neighborhood in Philadelphia. Attentive staff and delicious finger-licking good food. I had the charcoaled grill for one and my partner had the pork souvlaki. Absolutely flawless. Remember it’s BYOB so come prepared.
