I used the TooGoodToGo, and it was a big mistake. Very little food they give you. (Other place gives you so much food). The picture is per order. It’s definitely not worth the $4 each order, but it’s ok, if the quality is good, but NO. The rice was uncooked, the sausage was very dry. The noodle was just vegetable and very soggy. This place is beyond ridiculous. So bad that I was angry at myself for trying this place. I learned my lesson and will never order from here again.
The bbq here is pretty good. Haven’t tried as much of the other food so can’t give opinion on that. (But I hope to try more of the menu soon one day) Servers here always seem respectful and kind in my opinion. (Vs other reviews here)
Really loved the taro drink! The fried lumpia’s were perfectly hot and crispy, and stew had good flavor. Will have to go back earlier on another day to try other dishes. Salamat!
Worst filipino food I have had!!!!! They literally serve your food on a cheap looking tray. On top of that the lady who seem like the owner was mean and gave me an attitude. I would be in a bad mood too if business is slow and my chef is a horrible cook.Updated: I just read all the reviews for this store and I was not impressed how they respond to bad reviews, extremely unprofessional! Not even surprised that she is horrible in person. Learn how to handle criticisms well. Owner should improve her customer service skills. I wish I could give a 0 star review.
I was in Philadelphia for the weekend and needed something to do between my hotel check-out and my train departure so I headed to Reading Terminal Market. I was making my rounds through the stalls when I saw the word Tambayan and the Philippines flag from afar. I was so excited to give it a try and I was not disappointed!First off, we were promptly provided service and were able to sit on the counter off the bat. We had pancit, which was topped with a boiled egg and lumpia, which came with yellow rice and dip. The taste was reminiscent of the stands that I would pass by on my way home from school in Manila. The lumpia was crispy and flavorful. The pancit and rice were a tad dry if I were to be a bit picky but that didn't slow me down from scarfing it all. I was also greatly appreciative of the fact that the staff remained attentive to our needs the whole time despite having a packed counter.I think the most charming thing about this stand is how I saw several Filipinos walk by who took pictures of the sign and had conversations with the owner and each other. I ended up chatting with the owner (a lovely woman who has a great backstory) and an older Filipino couple who drove from cities away just to have Tambayan. The couple ordered two plates of tocilog (which they raved about). During the 30 minutes that I sat on that counter with them, I got to speak my native language to other Filipinos who were eager to share stories of their own diaspora and feel connected to their homeland albeit briefly. It was enough to satiate our homesickness for the time being. Good food has a way of bringing people together and Tambayan was able to do that for us.Long story short, Tambayan is a really new Filipino spot that serves delicious food. I trust that it will grow better with time. I'm excited to stop by again the next time I'm in town.
I recently relocated to Philly from the West Coast. Coming from out West, there is an abundance and wide array of Filipino food options. Enter Philadelphia where the options are sparse. Then you have Tambayan at Reading Terminal. Set in a phenomenal location to introduce people to Filipino food. Tambayan hits the mark for bringing the flavors of 7,100 islands to the City of Brotherly Love. It is the hybrid of a Filipino Turo-Turo restaurant (look it up if you don't know) and a traditional sit down restaurant. While the menu is limited, it allows the staff to prepare fresher food items which is often problematic at traditional turo-turo restaurants. To top it all off, the service is warm and welcoming which brings the heart of the Filipino to the table.Given the amount of Filipinos in the US, Filipino food is underrepresented in the American food scene. So, many people just don't know about it. Tambayan gives people a safe space to try the fabulous flavors of the Philippines. Food is all about taste and see. Give it a try. The worst thing that will happen is that you don't like it. So try something different next time. I doubt you'll have bad experience!Mabuhay kayo kabayan at maraming salamat po!
We stopped in on a busy Christmas Eve and immediately felt welcome. After a long day of walking and shopping it felt great to dig in to a hot plate of Filipino spaghetti, fresh vegetarian lumpia with rice, ube pan de sal (and even threw in an extra macaroon for the holiday!).I’ve read through some of the negative reviews and can say we didn’t experience anything like those stories. The staff checked in with us to make sure our food was good, we had what we needed, and even offered a bottle of Banana sauce for the noodles (IYKYK).Next time we’re in Philly we’ll be visiting Tambayan for more.
The food was okay, I’ve had better. We got there way before 5pm and selection was not much to be desired, because they said its was late in the day. We will not be coming back.If you want good Filipino food and don’t mind the drive, Inihaw Filipino BBQ in Bethlehem in the Lehigh Valley has very good selection and servers are very nice & friendly.
I went to Reading terminal on October 24th around 3 o’clock and I ordered food from a restaurant far away from Tambayan restaurant. However, I was eating in the seating area right outside of the Tambayan restaurant. I noticed I didn’t have any napkins so I went over there to the Tambayan restaurant and I asked A waiter for napkins. He reached down and got napkins and was about to give them to me when a female waiter reached out and took them out of his hand and said the napkins are for customers only, I understand I did not buy food from there but all I asked for was napkins and they were so rude so I asked for the manager. She came over and she was rude and loud also. Both of the two females would not give me their names and was so rude I will never tell anyone to go to that restaurant.
Wow! Amazing Filipino food in Philly! I totally recommend the Tapsilog and Pork BBQ, the portion is perfect. All the staff are very friendly. ?
