The food is excellent, service is fast, and the owner is incredibly nice. I love bumping into him on the street and sharing a hello.Definitely get the plantains because they are the best I've ever had. The chicken is always cooked perfectly and the jollof rice is delicious. This corner has been plagued with food service businesses that close in less than a year, so I'm ecstatic that this one is thriving.
This place is amazing, best chicken in the city. Always tender and seasoned perfectly. And now they have shrimp!! Couldn’t risk not getting my chicken fix so added shrimp to my jallof rice bowl this time and was soo good great seasoning also and I love that the seasoning is different than the chicken. I absolutely love this place it is my go to spot and the owner and staff are all so friendly. Highly highly recommend grabbing an amazing meal and supporting this local owned business!!
Love this place! Second time here. Will be back. The gentlemen that work and own the place are super friendly. Thanks well Suya Soon!
We recently moved into the neighborhood and got takeout from here the first night, and several times after that. The flavors are impeccable. The sauce on uto rice is phenomenal. I alternate between jollof rice and uto rice with chicken (get the mild if don’t like spicy, the flavor remains uncompromised) and the corn bread. So good, such a staple in our rotation of comforting takeout.
Everything I’ve tried is so good. Picture is chicken Suya bowl w/plantains, jollof rice and red spicy jawn.
First time trying African food and def set a high bar!! Suya suya was delicious. The jollof rice was so good and the chicken was so juicy and tender. The plantains add the perfect sweetness. Highly recommend!!
We have ordered delivery through GrubHub a few times now. The food is delicious, and the cuisine is refreshingly unique from the more commonplace delivery food options. And I have to say this - For anyone interested in reducing their environmental impact, this is the ONE place I have next-to-zero guilt ordering delivery from. The food comes in foil/paper containers, in a simple paper bag. And that's it. No plastic cutlery, sauces, napkins, etc. Every other place needs to follow Suya Suya's example in this respect! Oh and not to mention, we have experienced the quickest order-to-doorstep time. I swear we placed the order on GrubHub and had the food on our doorstep in 20 minutes. Not an exaggeration.
Ordered for lunch on a whim after reading about this place on some year-end lists. Was totally awesome - had the chicken bowl with jollof rice and cornbread. Great cook on the meat and had the perfect kiss of spice - seasonings you don't really taste anywhere else in the center city area. Will 100% be back.
Can’t wait to go back. We sat inside Suya Suya at the end of December and had an amazing meal. The food was all created and cooked to perfection and the owners took time to explain the differences between each of their carefully selected options. I had the okuko baked rice with chicken and a side of Brussel sprouts and of course, cornbread. The photo I took doesn’t do it justice!
Come now - that was so good, we had seconds! Kudos to the chef. Great food, great music, great service. Will be stopping back anytime I’m in Philly
