I hope my review represents an odd day for Mixto. I was a regular here when I lived in Philly (for 10 years) and I enjoy their ambience, the pan Latino dishes and drinks (including the homemade hot sauce). I was visiting Philly from London, and was super excited to eat there and to enjoy my Costa Rican breakfast which Iâve only ever been able to find in Philly at Mixto. Yesterday, there was a major problem at Mixto. We arrived for our 10 am breakfast/brunch reservation, ordered coffee and waited for our friends. We placed our breakfast order a bit before 10:30. Usually, at Mixto we receive our food within 15-20 minutes after ordering at the latest. And we ordered breakfast foods, which are usually not complicated to prepare. Yet our food did not come out in time and our friend never got her coffee. There were only 4 other tables seated, and we noticed that most of them were also waiting awhile for food. When our food wasnât served by 11:20 we told them we had to leave and for them to pack it up. But, we changed our minds and realized that it would be impossible to eat in the car, that we would be in a rush trying to eat while traveling to our noontime activity. Having been hanging around Mixto for nearly 1.5 hours and having only received 2 coffees (out of 4), we let them know that we would only be paying for the coffee. What was interesting was that as we were leaving we saw one of the waiters sitting at the counter eating his rice and beans and eggs, and drinking his beverage. So, something was happening in the kitchen! However, preparing and serving us our food in a timely manner was apparently not a priority for Saturday brunch yesterday at Mixto.

Food was amazing! Got the chicken with lemon sauce, comes with rice and beans. It was so good! It was a nice romantic atmosphere. Service was good.
Great menu. The food was delicious and well-prepared. The mojitos were excellent, though a bit on the sweet side. The wait staff was nice and friendly. However, we felt extremely rushed. We ordered a couple of appetizers and our main course, but we were not even halfway through our appetizers when our main courses arrived. We had a small table so had to move things around to accommodate the plates. We even asked for a box for the remainder of our ceviche and octopus salad. 10 minutes into the main course and the waitress brought over a dessert menu. We were though our whole dinner in about an hour. Too rushed! My advice, which weâll heed next time, is to order just the appetizers. When done eating those, order your main course.

I arrived a little early for my reservation but was still seated while I waited for my guest. Servers were nice they checked on me, food was Amazing. I will return.

Had a fantastic evening! Restaurant location was ideal, wait staff was exceptional even with all of our questions. They handled our table of 6 with no problem. The food was all amazing, taste as well as presentation. Definite repeat customers when in town.
