Ohhh yaaa! Best cheesesteak I’ve had yet. And it’s 2 feet long. The price may seem high but you get the best quality meat and lots of it! The staff is very attentive and you get just what you order which I really appreciate. The attached bar is chill and a great place to sit, eat and drink something to wash down all the food.
If you are ever in Philly this is one of the best cheese steaks I have had so far. I’m not from Philly but I asked some one at the church I visit in Philly and they said Max’s. The 1st time I tried to visit the line was all the way down the block and wrapped around the building. Since it is in the inner city or what looks like the hood I wasn’t sure if I wanted to wait that long or even where to safely park. It is at a busy cross section and if your not familiar with the area it can seem confusing as far as parking is concerned. The second time I attempted to go I found parking quickly. There are a lot of locals around. Honestly both times I visited on a Sunday so like any inner city the parking is usually free, safe from authorities and more abundant on Sundays. I’m pretty sure it was obvious I was a tourist because the locals do have a certain look. This review is long because now I see why that line was so long because these Cheese steaks are so so gooooood. I got the small one and it was filled with flavor, meat and cheese . It was honestly huge, the right kind of sloppy and juicy and frankly just what I needed. The meat was so tender . It taste like good sirloin. I got mine with mushrooms, pickles, onions , Salt and pepper, provolone, oil and vinegar, ketchup, garlic powder and spicy mustard . I got a grape juice as well , it was just a bottle of grape juice nothing special but I needed something. It wasn’t cold at all. So I walked in a bar around the corner and they gave me ice for free. I walked in there because I saw one of the locals coming out with a cup of ice . I followed suit. When in Rome when in Rome. I had to drive back to NJ ( plus I don’t drink)but they were running a special for who ever would eat in could get a free beer. This sandwich was so good I want it again right now. It’s true that the best local foods come from the hood. I hope no one takes that the wrong way but it’s worth any one from any walk of life going there and experiencing this wonderful place in the heart of Philly. Make sure you check out the menu before you go or pay attention to the menu before you are called to place your order because they expect you to know what you want because they are really busy. They aren’t super friendly but probably just because they are busy and didn’t have time for small talk or maybe that was just the Philly way.
If you're looking for an authentic cheesesteak experience, Max's is the place to go. This no-frills jawn is located in a pretty ghetto part of town, but don't let that deter you - the food here is worth the trip. The steak is juicy and flavorful, and the cheese is melted to perfection. The rolls are fresh and soft, and the onions and peppers add the perfect amount of flavor. If you're looking for a delicious cheesesteak in Philadelphia, Max's is definitely the place to go.
Listen, this spot will have you coming for more. This is my second time eating here and every time I'm in Philly I'm pulling up. A few things to know before you go...have your order ready, it's cash only (there is an ATM inside), they only let in so many people at a time, so you will wait outside most likely (but it's definitely worth it). I had the Whole Pepper Cheesesteak (onions, hot peppers, salt, pepper, ketchup), should've grabbed 2.
This past weekend we had over 300 wedding guests out of town. Sent many to Max’s for their very first cheesesteak. All guests that followed our recommendation said food was good but treatment by several staff members was HORRIBLE AND RUDE. (Openly - we have descriptions of staff.) We were so embarrassed and apologized profusely. NO EXCUSES FOR BEING RUDE AFTER OUR GUESTS SAID TO THISE TAKING ORDERS, “THIS IS OUR FIRST TIME HERE.” (They came on Friday 5/13 and Saturday 5/14 - various times.). UNLESS YOU LIKE BEING TREATED LIKE TRASH - DO YOURSELF A FAVOR (no matter how the food tastes) AND AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!
Ordered the steak sub and I think it’s over rated and here is why. 1. Waited over an hour and a half 2. Sub cost $27, overpriced for a sub 3. Cook was blatantly rude in front of customers. I’m not going to say it’s the best I’ve even had but definitely not the worst. All I will say is that I would never stand in line again for 90 plus minutes to spend my money on a sub and would encourage my friends to either
No frills, order on one side and bar with limited searing on the other. Cash only for both sides. Staff was nice and helpful for out of towners like us. Cheese steaks and drinks only, no fries or sides. Let them know if you want your food packed for travel when ordering and they will wrap everything nicely and put fixings on the side. Line gets long quickly after opening and can be a bit of a wait, but it's worth it. We drove up for DC just to come here. Real steak; not steak-um. Also you can get chicken as well. Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of my hoagie lol it was so good and fully stuffed with meat.
I read great things about Max’s online & the food surpasses the hype! WARNING: Come with cash only or there is an ATM on the premises. The staff is friendly & makes the wait worth it. I arrived on a Wednesday afternoon & still had to wait 20 minutes in a line outside the door. But, my Mushroom Cheesesteak…YES!! It had a heaping amount of 100% sirloin steak. I ordered a whole with Provolone, grilled onions, lettuce, & tomato…no mayo. It was big enough for my lunch & dinner. EXCELLENT!
First time visiting Max's after hearing I have been going to all the wrong "other" steak favorites while in town from NYC and I have to say I was impressed by my sandwich. We ordered two whole steak sandwiches. The meat quality is unprecedented, bread fresh as can be and super soft. Made to order even with the add on's, ketchup and all. The portion size is on point, they do not skimp you here at all. The wait/line was not long when we visited luckily but, I can see why people may experience otherwise for the quality and love that goes into every sandwich. Place is cash only with an ATM inside also. Didn't see much of a drink selection besides beer but you can grab something else near-by and patronize another establishment or visit the attached bar for a cocktail. Awesome!
2nd shift at temple hospital?Steak from Maxs at 12am!?Got the whole well worth the 20spotIm hard to please but boy it was just the rite amount of grease and meat to bread ratioNot usually a fan of the "choped" method of cooking steaksBUTMAX'S does it rite.GO! You will not regret it.Oh and the service was ?
