We opted to sit outside and the waiter was extremely attentive throughout our meal even though it was extremely busy. He was practical in his advice, giving options to pick up alcohol across the street and around the corner since they are BYO. We asked about the set menu and he was realistic that it was a good amount of food whether we wanted leftovers or not. We ordered 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and a dessert and were very satisfied. Some may argue for more meat with the entree but the price can't be beat! The beef is from cuts of filet mignon per our waiter and we're undoubtedly tender! The pumpkin dessert was unique but definitely smaller than we expected.. would definitely return to Kanella!
It wasn’t busy when we came in but I did make a reservation via Resy app. The place has about 15 tables, give or take. So if you are just visiting Philly like me, make a reservation to avoid the wait.We have tried the: mutabal, tzaziki, hummus, adana (lamb) kebab, chicken shish, beef kebab, levrek (sea bass), baklava, and lots of pita bread. My favorites are the adana and the levrek. The adana is very juicy and the reddish sauce that comes with it really complements its flavors. The salad with its house-made dressing that comes with the sea bass is very light and refreshing. The restaurant has a somewhat Greek ambiance with its white walls and chairs and blue window frames. There is a neutral gendered restroom as well. This is by far the best customer service I have experienced here in Philly. Definitely 6 stars if that’s possible.
I cannot speak on behalf of the dine-in experience, but the take out was a tad disappointing. I ordered the steak kebab entree for $16 and received an under-filled bowl with 4 morsels of meat, a scoop of rice, and some pickled onion slices. I feel like I was expecting more, especially from a restaurant with high praise and quality. While the dish tasted quite good, but I believe I overpaid for what I was given.
Good Mediterranean food with a touch of Turkish, Greek and middle eastern food. Service is excellent and do not forget to have delicious desert. And for the finale a good Turkish coffee.
Some of the best Mediterranean food I've had.The hummus is excellent.I had the salmon kebab and it was perfectly cooked and the flavor was robust, paired with some of the most succulent rice I've tasted. The wait staff were great with attentiveness and their explanation. The prices are reasonable. I was in the mood for a full 3 courses so it wasn't inexpensive. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area.It was a little noisy but I didn't mind.
Great food! First time trying this place. Me and my wife lovedthe ambience and atmosphere in the restaurant. Adana Kebab was full of flavor. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. Baklava is fresh & phenomenal.Definitely coming back to this place and would recommend it to anyone
Apparently this restaurant is overlooked and underrated. Those are authentic and staff is great and friendly. We are having a mini vacation from Washington DC and we have travelled a ton in the world. This restaurant is worth your money. Highly recommended! ☺️?
First time coming back after their reopening with a new head chef. Food was amazing! Server was super sweet and attentive and even offered us samples of a new menu item. Will be back soon!
Go! Food was fresh, hearty and delicious for a quick impromptu lunch after walking through the city. Service great and extremely accommodating. New chef/owner came out to greet us and promote his new restaurant. Would go back again. Don't miss the Knafeh!! Yum!
Great dinner! Food is delicious, big portions and price is very reasonable. Byob too, which makes it even better
