Hop Sing Laundromat offers much more than you’d expect. They’ve got the best drinks in the city hands-down and a supremely romantic atmosphere. It transports you to another world.Just follow the rules, be a decent and thoughtful guest, and you’ll have an unforgettable experience.Oh and you’ll need solid proof of vaccination. Physical card or official app with a QR code.
Amazing cocktail list. Dear Leader is a masterful drink that smells like a campfire and will linger in your memory. I asked our waiter for a recommendation and the recommended Amaretto Sour (which is not on the official drink menu) was the best amaretto sour I've ever had. They definitely did not use sour mix.Ambience is perfect for having a conversation, and the decor is stunning. I am definitely coming back here.
It's a shame. I went here before the pandemic. Always loved the place and the drinks. I introduced people to this place too. I was just turned down because I didn't have physical proof of vaccination card and was unable to pull up the digital QR code for my vaccination card. My photo of my card with my license wasn't sufficient enough. Yes, the guy at the door offered to help, but it was just time consuming trying to find the information. After leaving, we spent time trying to find statements on their website or Google about the physical copy requirement. After coming across the negative reviews and how the owner posted such negative responses (which includes he is looking people up on social media), we decided to not go back to our apartment and get our vaccine cards. I am already prepared for a negative response from the owner, which is extremely unfortunate. From one business owner to another, no matter how successful you are, I would never think to do this to my customers.Edit- it is June 2022, I didn't think to look up the places protocols because Philly has removed the mandate. Yes, I should have thought to look things over. But honestly, if I did think to Google (when in the past I've been extremely familiar with the place and know all of their rules and didn't think I did) and saw the reviews, I wouldn't have come. Never blamed the owner for not being allowed in. I made a lot of "I" statements in my initial review and never bashed the place about their policy. I was being factual. I am disappointed in how the owner responds. It is an amazing place. Extremely well run on the inside. Amazing cocktails and amazing environment. Just not at all pleased with how negative reviews are taken. I love being responded to hinting that I am entitled and ignorant when I remained factual the majority of the time. It wasn't a "negotiation tactic" when I already left and posted the review. I'm just not coming back, simple. I realize it is no loss to the business. I have the right as a previous customer to post facts
My husband and I came on Friday with my best friend and her husband. They had been before, but this was our first time as we were up visiting. The owner was extremely friendly and we were blown away by the detail in the decor and design of the speakeasy. Our server was lovely, helped make some great suggestions, and was extremely attentive. I had a "mother's little helper" which was great, and "lavanda" which was like liquid candy and the most delicious drink I've probably ever drank. I appreciated the covid precautions and I felt extremely safe. I really look forward to returning.
This is a pretty cool place. It gives off secret society vibes. You must have a hard copy vaccine card to enter and they are very serious about no phone calls or photography while in the establishment. Drinks are pretty pricey starting at about $17 but are well made. The only thing I didn't like was the 20 percent surcharge added to the check. .this is NOT gratuity just an additional fee for no reason...I would rather them charge a door cover. I'm sure the waiters get short changed because of that random fee. This is definitely a special occasion or out of town on vacation experience for the average person.
Let me preface my review... my wife and I travel all over the world and make sure we hit speakeasy (yes, I know Hop Sing Laundromat doesnt want to be considered a speakeasy) and we both were in the bar business for a while. Here is my review... Atmosphere: Yes, very cool. A nondescript gate and the owner/manager are your first introductions to this bar/speakeasy. Inside you are provided an overview of the establishment and the rules -- nothing crazy, one would hope everyone can follow and abide by, very respectable. Inside is dimly lite, with exposed ceilings, red walls with pictures on the walls and music playing around the room. If you are concerned about masks and social distancing, Hop Sing is doing it right. Staff: Very attentive and not pushy. We never felt rushed and were able to sip our drinks and just enjoy our conversation. We did ask a question about some of the ingredients but our servers were unable to answer -- not a big deal, but if youre only serving alcohol you should know your fair share of what youre serving and then some. Drinks: Quality mixing by far. We were very impressed with the types of liquor being fused together and the outcome. (A fernet, absinthe mixture was amazing!) Con: Mixed drinks on the menu went from about $16 and up... not including a 20% service charge, which was not including the tip and everything was cash only -- so a tab for two drinks, with a respectable 20% tip, will run you about $50, again only two drinks at the lower end of the scale. Overall: While the drinks were good, the place itself did not warrant that price tag. Too many places (including other bars/speakeasies) where you can find as good or better drinks with a similar or better atmosphere for less. Nothing wrong with the Hop Sing, but really not worth the hype in my opinion.
If your lucky enough to gain entrance here you will enjoy amazing cocktails, but it is cash only and expensive, you must have your vaccine card or scannable QR on your phone of your vaccination or else don’t even bother trying to get in! It was worth the wait for the experience
One of the best experiences my husband and I ever had going into a cocktail bar. I fully respect and appreciate the rules & screenings the owner does, all in all it benefits everyone. The atmosphere is so chic and mysterious, the anticipation just keeps building up even though you are still in line. Service was top knots nothing pretentious, the drinks I could go on and on about how delicious and perfectly crafted they are✨ you could tell when a business actually puts their heart into creating things. My husband and I had a good 5minutes trying to figure how in the world does the glass doesn’t stick to the napkins? (In a good way) You know usually it does. Aaah I guess we’ll never know. Ooh and the ice my husband loves it. Thank you sir! You & your team are great ? we’ll definitely be back when we’re in town.
This place was a vibe, drinks were amazing... Have your id and a digital scannable qr code of your vaccination records on hand. The owner has no issue with denying access to would be customers who can't follow the house rules. Once entering the space you'll understand why
Very cool, very vibey place. The drinks were SUPERB ??. The owner takes covid very seriously, you will need your vax card to get in. And don't forget to bring cash. There is a doorbell you press to get in- push it, wait patiently, and enjoy!
