Having come to Philly for the first time and at short notice I did some quick research on a restaurant for my wife and son for Friday night dinner. Various articles and reviews led me to the Harp & Crown. The name “Harp” itself invokes strings playing dreamily in the background. The reviews and pictures of its own website suggests a cathedral-like quietness, space and tranquillity. Boy, did we get a shock when we walked in on time for our reservation. The bar was ram packed, with quite a few medical personal in their scrubs (thank you for your service) enjoying Friday night drinks. The place was louder and more frenetic than A & E and a soccer stadium in one. With temperatures close to 100F/38C outside we decided to stick it out especially as the food got good ratings in reviews. After a hot 10 minute wait in a congested area, we were shown to a diner-like booth close to the bar. Our server, Olivia, who must be an opera singer by training had to literally shout at the top of her lungs at us to take our order. Good thing she was proficient in sign language too. I asked my wife if she had her Remarkable2 tablet with her to write on to communicate our orders but she had left it at home. Olivia’s service was excellent. Sadly our 14 year old did not enjoy his pizza as he complained it was all too loud around him. The starters were generally good but some misses too. The pierogies and chicken dumplings were fantastic. The lamb balls were for anyone who like Lebanese, Spanish or Turkish cuisine lacking in flavour. Drinks were good and reasonably priced. There is clearly huge potential in the Harp & Crown but not everyone enjoys soccer stadium-like atmospheres to eat in. The website was quite frankly misleading. Not sure what we would go back for.
I take my friends and family here all of the time, so many different small dishes to choose from. The small plates are all meant to be shared amongst the table, and you really can’t go wrong. The building is so cool inside too. Harp & Crown is perfect for a night out in the city.
The food is as if Mom left and Dad cooks everything that is in the kitchen. Beetroot with almonds, salmon with sausages, crab with lemon. All this together and heat in the microwave for 20 minutes.
Food 9/10Really solid and amazing happy hour deals. All the food was $7, even that pizza!! Their house cocktail that day had cucumber in it, and it was delightfully refreshing. Definitely come here for happy hour, it’s always a good time! We also couldn’t help ourselves from ordering drinks from their regular cocktail menu, and each had a delicious and unique taste.Atmosphere 10/10I loved the vibes and interior design. Outdoor seating was in a covered area, while the indoors was quite dark yet had both rustic and elegant elements.Service 8/10Friendly service that gave good recommendations.
First time, but definitely not my last. The brunch selection had endless options, food was flavorful and quite tasty, service exceptional and ambiance perfect. Highly recommend adding a mimosa
I had a very good experience at Harp and Crown at their outside seating space. My pork Milanese was excellent, the dry aged burger was very good, although overcooked for med rare, and their cocktails delicious.Their interior space is very interesting and I would go there next time. For what their charge this can be a regular go to place, because it offers finer dining at a good price. In all honesty I had better food here than at Alpen Rose, who belongs to the same hospitality group and it is supposed to be more high end.
The mimosas were top notch and the brunch buffet was excellent. Plenty of choices for everyone.
My girlfriend and I just went for some drinks at the bar. Very cool ambiance. Our bartender was Andy, who was on his first shift after finishing training and he was great. Such a friendly guy and made the experience very pleasant. The host was super friendly as well and gave us a little tour downstairs of the secluded bar and the bowling alley. Definitely need to check that out! Have been here before and definitely will return, but shout out to the awesome staff this time!
To begin, our server Kareem was perfect! He was super friendly, gave great recommendations and was very attentive. The tasting menu is such a terrific deal and super fun, not to mention more than enough food. My partner and I particularly liked the tuna carpaccio, pirogies, broccolini pizza, and the kale salad. It’s also very cute inside. We will definitely be returning :)
Awesome service at the bar with a knowledgeable, creative bartender. We had some bites with our drinks and everything was great—lamb meatballs, hamachi rice cracker, and cheesesteak eggrolls. If only we had made it for the happy hour deal!
