Perfect location, in the heart of the Italian Market, this place can get a little lost with Lorenzo’s directly next door, but George’s certainly holds its own.Friendly staff, and fast service, this tiny place has a lot of heart. Loved the $7 long roll breakfast sandwiches. Good stuff all around. Would recommend.
i dn’t actually eat hear but visited them for the festival, they were out of sausage for the sausage and peppers but when I asked the woman who else sells it she rudely said she didn’t know. Turn out the vendor right next to her were selling them. I felt like she just didn’t want to give the money to the competition but if you don’t have a product let the next business eat. Horrible staff and customer service
Tripe sandwich was watery today, March 26, 2022. The waitress even commented on it! Not the same as years ago!
Got the cutlet sandwich, was over spiced and didn’t taste great
Fantastic cheese steaks and pulled pork in the Italian Market.
This placed seemed pretty promising due to the reviews and photos. It’s pretty easy to find with easy parking. First the food, sandwiches were okay, we got the roast pork sandwich and Philly cheesesteak. A bit too spicy and soggy for my taste with not much flavor. The meats were well cooked though. The reason for the bad review is the poor service. They take cash only but fail to give the correct change and end of overcharging. It’s not even about the money but the principal. Be wary of this when you visit!
We visited Little Italy and stopped at the Visitor Center and asked the lady there where the locals go to eat their Philly Cheesesteaks and she mentioned this place as the place to go to. This is not a sit down restaurant, they have a window where you order your food and then you either take it to go or you find a sidewalk table or bench to have you meal. We chose to go around the corner and just sat at a church stairs and have our lunch. My girlfriend ordered the tripe sandwich and I went with the Philly Cheesesteak. Both sandwiches were unbelievably good. My cheesesteak was so flavorful and cheesy with onions, and my girlfriend essentially said the tripe was similar to the way she makes tripe at home. Bottom line, the next time I go back I will hit this spot again!!
Absolutely amazing hot sausages and cheese steaks. Very good. Family owned as well.
Quintessential Philadelphia greasy spoon. That's a good thing. Used to go all the time, but moved outta Philly a few years back. Was saddened to learn of George (I believe this wasn't his actual name) passing away. That was around the last time I stopped by, but they were closed in remembrance. He was a true hustler. The embodiment of a blue collar Philly guy, through and through. I've always ordered the same exact thing, since long as I can remember...two Burn My A$$ hot sausages, with extra long hots, and raw onion. I'm extremely grateful that the cute daughter and other family members have kept this institution from my childhood, and a staple of the Italian Market up and running. I will stop by soon, cause all this talk about food is making me hungry.
Really not my kind of place. The employees were great. My sandwich was bland, really needed a lot of doctoring. Maybe for someone else but not for me.
