Absolutely superb "street food", and not the kind of food you could get just anywhere in the States. This was my first experience with Guatemalan cuisine, so I can't really compare it to anything else. But everything was delicious and (to me) novel, from the cheese-baked corn to the pupusas. Props to the restaurant owner and staff for bringing to Philly a culinary tradition that many of us know little about.
They have an eclectic menu and you can order different combinations of entrees to try multiple things at very reasonable price. Papusa, beans, queso, rice, plantains, guacamole, churros ā you name it. The food here is a delightful! You can order from a touch screen and they bring the food to you. The service is fast.
What an amazing find! The nachos were surprisingly refreshing. They blowtorch the nachos a little which gives it that distinct charred aftertaste which pairs really well with the salsa-guac mashup ( I personally like it chunkier but theirs is quite runny). The chicken topping was also cooked to perfection with just the right amount of spice and seasoning. Iām looking forward to trying other things on the menu on our next trip to Philly.
I've been to El Merkury many times so I can attest that the entire menu is delicious. My favorite part of the menu is dessert. I cannot get enough of their churro & ice cream combo. The churro is light and crispy. The chocolate sauce is beautifully dark and the chile flakes add the right amount of heat so the dish isn't one note.If you're not a dessert person, I highly recommend the tostadas. You really can't go wrong here.
Kpop not pot and BBQ. Go here. Great place. Lunch is cheaper m
I've walked by here so many times and today I stopped in to check it out. Wow! I ordered a papusa and tostada combo to try a few things and was pleasantly surprised by the quality, flavor and speed of the service. The baked 3 cheese rice is amazing! I will definitely go back!
My sister and I came here for the churro sundaes, and will absolutely be returning for the delicious / creative street food and the sky-high, extremely photogenic churros! My salad had a smorgasbord of pickled veggies and marinated jackfruit, and my sister's combo meal was large, tasty, and quite interesting (taquitos and something else, paired with cheesy rice and beans plus guac). Can't wait to try more of the menu!
Promising menu, good location, decent food. Quiet cozy comfortable, more of a nicety for date night with that special someone to enjoy a decent Mexican meal at this establishment, It is worth the visit.
Very tasty flavors that seem home made and organic. Does a fantastic job showcasing what makes this cuisine unique while pushing our comfort zone of familiarity only as far as we want to go. Really think more people should try this place at least once.
Generally tasty but not much food for the price, and somewhat inconsistent on freshness. Taquito was hot and crispy, papusa was cold and soggy, both still tasted good. The sides were good. I liked the horchata, but my to-go cup was a little over half filled. My lunch bill ended up being over $20 for a combo and drink.
