Wow, what an amazing restaurant, with an even better staff and an even better backstory. Mike, the head chef, took our order and was very welcoming and patient. The other chefs in the back were hard at work fulfilling orders (I love to see it).The pizza was good, but the fries, not so much.Note: the food is a bit pricey; you could definitely get 1 pizza, to share amongst 2-3 people, depending on your appetite size to save on cost.
We were craving Detroit pizza just as Down North was featured on the Eater channel on YouTube. The pizza looked so good that we soon found ourselves driving up Ridge avenue to give it a try! We got the Rock the Mic and Uptown Vibes pies and both were incredible. The crust was crispy on the bottom and soft & buttery on the inside, and the sauce was the perfect combination of salty and sweet. Each slice is a hefty portion since it's Detroit style. We will be back again soon!
Drove to my Philadelphia to check out this place hearing what good they do for the community and being Black Owned! Read about it. First time of course and I’m glad to say I tried it. We were greeted and Mike helped us out. Very helpful and patient is always a plus for me! I ordered the “Flip Side” pizza and added chicken as well as the fresh cut fries and let me tell you $30 for a pizza is a little steep! Sheesh. I’ll be honest there were too many jalapeños and the beef bacon (was not a fan) could’ve been cooked better. The fries tasted like they were cooked in multi-used old grease which were not at all the greatest especially given they were straw fries (nope). I absolutely loved and appreciated the homemade bbq sauce and fresh made bread!! The pizza in itself- Freshly made, flavorful and overall pretty good! Definitely should think about selling the pizza by slices or smaller portions because it was a lot! Overall good people, good food and a good experience. Thank you!
Very delicious pizza with especially tasty sauce! It’s hard to impress a person from Chicago about pizza, but Down North is definitely my favorite pizza n Philly. Thanks to my sister for introducing me to it during my last trip east!
Very good. The pizza was a bit “bready” for me but it’s Detroit style pizza so I get that. The flavors are creative and well executed and it’s a far distance from us but we went to support black business and were not disappointed. It was WONDERFUL that there is NO PORK served here so I could just order freely and get whatever I wanted without having to ask for a non-pork option. The only thing I will say is that we ordered online an hour ahead of time for 7:00 pickup and when we got there it was as though they made it when we came which was annoying, but next time we will come after the time we say. So that’s why I didn’t give 5 stars. But we will definitely be back.
Delicious Detroit style pizza. The crust is crisp but also light and airy. I don’t know what they put in their sauce but it has great flavor and is wonderfully spicy. I also love their mission and values. I wish they had a location in the Northeast. Think about it!
Thanks to Zahov's Michael Solomonov & his review we found this pizza jawn. As an Italian women wasn't sure how I would feel abt this pie & it's gravy. Hands down sweet & heat & delicious on the veggie pie (Miles recommended). All fresh veg & the flavors were poppin. My mouth can still taste after 1hour of eating. Great Mission & a Fantastic blend of cheese & crunchy dough crust.
Delicious, thick crust, Detroit style pizza, with a red sauce that has just a little spice to it. French fries are AMAZING... thin cut and always freshly chopped the day of cooking. Pizza is awesome! (I'm not a big fan of thick crust.) Love their story...and their food. Hope these guys make it.

When looking for the best pizza in Philly, this place was mentioned on several websites for having some really great Detroit style pizza. As someone who loves thick crust pizza, this place did not disappoint! The crust was great, sauce tangy and had the perfect amount of cheese. If you like thick crust pizza, you have to try this place! Not to mention, they hire formally incarcerated people which is respectable and different from most pizza places in the city unfortunately.
