Grew up on Barry’s cheesesteaks. My go to spot for 20 + years. Gods do they make good food. The Buffalo chicken cheese steak is fire. The chicken cheese steak hoagie is dope. Their basic cheesesteak is phenomenal. Steak fries, curly fries and the ONION rings. Sheeeeeshhh. And their delivery game is the best in town. Hot and fresh EVERYTIME. I miss them.
First time going here was yesterday to meet for like a work lunch meeting. Laid back, typical steak shop vibe - the guy we know & was meeting with is a regular at Barry's. I opted for the regular sized Chicken Cheesesteak Hoagie (fried not raw onions) w/ American and mayo. The chicken was chopped like chicken steak versus the chicken chunks and I surprisingly did like it that way. It was a perfect size and I ate all of it.Would recommend checking them out. If I was in the area again, I would order from them again.
I called to place an order & I should have known at that point this place was not for me. The guy taking the order repeated my order back to me twice incorrectly after letting me know they had run out of regular rolls & only had the mini's. I walked in the establishment while my food was being prepared after being told they would be ready in 10 minutes, to find a guy making my hoagie stop & answer the phone with the same gloves on that he was handling food. Then going back to making a chicken Parm sandwich. Taking the chicken tenders out of the roll & placing them on same counter he was preparing the hoagies on to add provolone cheese. Picked them up placing them back into the roll. They were under staffed & unorganized. You would think that after seeing all of that I would have left them right there. Luckily mine fell on the ground before I possibly could have gotten sick. If your going here you might as well go to Liberty gas station in uptown. The bread was soft & they made my hoagie as I requested. NEVER AGAIN.... DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!! $31 for two regular hoagies & a mini hoagie.
(April 2021 visit) Was wandering around Roxborough last night (as you do) and tried the often suggested Barry's as a "better than Delos" alternative. In car dining for freshest 1st impression. Steak was seasoned well with medium chop, good cheese (American - no Cooper on offer) to meat ratio and al dente onions which added a nice sweet pop. The roll sadly was a miss IMHO - fresh wasn't the issue but softness was. It held together but was squishy, lacked a bit of mouth feel compared to the heavy hitters. Would I eat there again, probably but not out of may way worthy. Will say, for being an older joint, the operation is tight and clean. Articulate on the phone when taking your order and friendly customer service at the counter. Young staff on at the time covering all posts and all had the hustle going on - no smartphone slouches making the job 2nd priority. Restores some faith for our future. This alone will sway me towards here the next I'm in the area.
Absolutely phenomenal every single time I go! I drive an hour and a half to get there but it is sooooooo worth it!!!
Best in the city if you like good fried onions and rough chop, not too fine. Great hots, great wings, great fries, great sodas and great service.
Barry's makes my favorite cheesesteak in the city. Try it with their tri-blend cheese sauce for the best flavor. I think they even make their own sodas which are also delicious. Great local shop with friendly people, quick service
A buddy reccomended this place -- this is the best cheese steak I have ever had in Philly. Highly recommend. It's a hole in the wall family joint with a real community atmosphere. Really nice people. And the best steaks. Onion rings are also really good. 10/10.
Barrys ranks in the top 10 places in Philly to get a outstanding Philadelphia Cheesesteak. The food is top tier, plus there is good parking and a friendly staff. What's not to like. And try Barrys homemade cola in assorted flavors!! I highly recommend Barry's!!!
Barry's Steaks was Delicious, just the right steak and Onions, and the roll was great also the service was good and Quik.
