Amazing South Indian food in the heart of center city! It's the only place I've seen so far that offers Southern India specific style dishes and I highly recommend them. They do it so right. I was here several times for both lunch and dinner precovid. This time coming back, I noticed there were some different menu item changes and was super excited to see thali options where I can sample different dishes all at once. I got the Non-veg South Indian Thali and it did not disappoint. The portions were very generous and I enjoyed every single one of them. Usually I am not a fan of khee but they do it differently here and I fell in love. I see why this place is always so packed. Food is always on point! The newly added no contact ordering and payment system is also easy to use and a huge plus!
Small restaurant and they take reservations for large parties. Good service and great south Indian food. Its such a pleasure to be at a restaurant that offers both the popular south Indian food dosa, idli and wada as well as seafood and chicken. They have great options. We enjoyed the shrimp moilee with delicious coconut sauce and pomfret fry. lassi and limca bring back memories We enjoyed the gobhi manchurian. The sizzling brownie dessert and gulab jamun was yummy too.
After trying two other places that happened to be closed, my family of four staggered in the door looking for sustenance. We were pleased to find much more! The space is well decorated and cozy, the brick walls offer classic Philadelphia flair while aromas emanating from the kitchen promised much more. We had some trouble using the online ordering platform, but the waiter (who I believe was also a manager of some sort) happily took our order by hand. He recommended we try the Gobi Manchurian, and no one in my family has been able to shut up about it since. We tried the Non-Veg Couples Platter and some sort of delicious rice dish, and were pleased to try such a variety of South Indian cuisine. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Food 8/10I usually never have Indian cuisine, so I was feeling quite excited when I ordered the huge lamb dosa. It didn’t feel that heavy, but I completely demolished the entire dish. It was both chewy and soft, yet crispy on the edges. The inside was stuffed with lamb, and it came with a lot of different dips to try out. I didn’t know where to start but I loved experimenting with the different dips and getting a flavor explosion.Atmosphere 8/10A lot of seats, casual restaurant, was surprisingly popular on a weekday evening.Service 10/10We ordered on our mobile phones, and the dishes came at such a fast speed I was really surprised. Everything was steamy hot and fresh. Not a lot of interaction with the waiter, so it’s a very covid safe sort of experience, as we also pay through our phone. Paying directly was also an option.
Great dinner out!! The Veggie couples platter was fantastic. Portion was very good size and very yummy! The Mango Lassi was good too! I would recommend reservations, we did not have them and got there a little early but as we sat amd ate the place go really busy with a pretty good wait for tables.
Best indian food in philly downtown. Good options for vegetarians. Veg Biryani and chettinadu masala dosa are my favorites.
Tastes just like home! I have been searching for South Indian food that tastes more like my mom’s and this is the closest I’ve ever found. The staff are very generous and attentive. The atmosphere is positive and welcoming to all. Seats are well spaced and comfortable. I have paid twice the price per dish for half the quality of food at other places. At Amma’s the portion sizes are large and surprisingly affordable for the superior quality of food. For 4 people with a decent amount of leftovers it was less than $100.I ordered:Masala Dosa - spot on taste, 10/10 recommendMutton Kothu Parotta - very flavorful without the spice being overwhelmingChicken Tikka Masala - one of the best I’ve ever tried (might even be a little better than my mom’s but shhh she can never know that)The “Non Veg Couples Combo” - AMAZING! This combo comes with Chicken biryani, mutton biryani, chicken kuruma, chicken sukka, parotta, and raitha. The portions of biryani were huge! I usually am not a fan of any biryani except homemade but this is absolutely delicious.I highly highly recommend visiting Amma’s!
Good location in central city, staff very helpful with menu choices. Quick service, food arrived hot and was delicious. I was going to take out, but changed my mind, and was pleased. Decor is plain, but dining room was clean and comfortable. Tables are close together, but I was limited to a two top. Food was fresh, well prepared, and excellent value. Not at all pricey.
Must visit! Food is superb. Delivery is quite quick. Staff is good. Only thing is this place almost always crowded so be prepared for a wait time. Also you might face parking issues but that’s not the restaurant’s fault. You can order and make your payment through the QR Code placed on every table. We ordered Punugulu, Cut mirchi & Masala Gongura Dosa. Only thing that disappointed me a little was that they served coconut chutney with Cut mirchi which is unusual. It should be served with green chutney. Rest everything was good.
Awesome very authentic food, every item we ordered was very tasty and fresh. All staff members were very welcoming too. The only reason for 3 stars is , The trouble we got were that the parking voucher provided to us to park in near by partaking garage never worked and even after calling repeatedly no response. Finally we had to pay for parking ($30) , that was insane. This has been avoided if restaurant should have informed us.
