We dined with some relatives on Monday night, August 8. The food was excellent, and the service was too. Louisa was our server and she did a very good job. Nice background music with a song “Luigi”, as well as some classics by Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra in the background. Very nice evening all around!
I rarely complain about a meal let alone send something back to the kitchen. I usually just let it go and chalk it up to a bad meal. I ordered shrimp scampi. The pasta was very watery and the server offered to take it back but I politely accepted it. ( I hadn't taste the bland pasta yet) At the end of the meal the hostess/owner or family member asked about the meal. I told her there was absolutely no garlic or seasoning in the dish and the pasta was very watery, So she said I take it you don't want a go box. She then asked my friend how her meal was and she said ok. She told my friend who had requested a box that she should have shared her meal with me. Really? I thought that was extremely rude. So instead of chalking it up to a bad, lousy meal, I'm posting this review.
Our waitress was amazing and the food, every bite, is soooo good. Homemade pasta is the very best.
It was my Fiance and I's first time at Calao's and boy was it nothing short of amazing! We loved the ambiance, homey/cozy vibe, and our server Savannah was so sweet and attentive. Our meals and drinks were very good but our favorite part was the dessert! We split the Lemon Italian Cream Cake, it was light and so so delicious. Definitely will be back in the future, thank you for such a great experience!
I LOVED THIS RESTAURANT. I lived in Italy, and know "good" Italian. This is where it's at, folks!I ordered the beef short ribs and they accommodated my gluten-free pasta request rather than the risotto (I am unable to eat dairy) and it was still DELICIOUS. We got a chocolate cake dessert that was just heavenly as well. We came on a busy Saturday night and was able to sit at the bar because there were no more seats, and it was delightful thanks to the friendly bartender. We could tell the entire place is well run; the owner is so pleasant and knows a lot of his clients and his entire staff works so efficiently. It's a beautiful atmosphere to dine in, and again, the food was TO DIE FOR. I come to Erie often, and look forward to dining here again.

So much deliciousness! The Pear Martini is fire! I ordered the Cremini Mushroom Ravioli and it was divine! For dessert, we ordered Bread Pudding and the Chocolate Cake which were both absolutely amazing! Splendid service plus fantastic food, you seriously can't go wrong with this place!
Absolute worst experience in Erie.Server was extremely awkward. Bread was cold and from a grocery store with flavorless oil. Charcuterie board was hunks of parmesan with a few slices of flavorless meat and a pile of olives ($21). Everything is overpriced, even salads were $7 a piece and terrible. I've had better Italian at Olive Garden for 1/4 the price. Go to Mi Scuzi down the street for actual Italian food with flavor.
Wonderful rich Italian dishes. Scallops and mushroom ravioli were excellent. Charming interior. The wine selection and bar were great. I would eat there again as I wanted to try lots of the chef signature dishes
Children Not WelcomeMy family and I visited Colao's to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday and to experience the slice of Italy they claim to have brought to Erie, PA. Unfortunately that slice most resembles that of my great Italian grandparents who had little tolerance for anything and expected children to sit lifelessly at the dinner table with their hands in their laps and volume at zero.Twenty minutes into the meal and with our appetizers behind us, my wife and I did what most parents of a three year old do when he grows tired of boring adult conversation. We handed him a phone for some Disney Plus time. During my son's quiet state of focus, he turned his volume up to five as he shared a few short lines with his frozen friend Olaf. We asked him to quiet down but before we could resume our place in the table's conversation, we were approached by an annoyed proprietor who had clearly been salted over years of public exposure in the food service industry. He asked that we keep our children under control as there were two business execs at the bar. I replied with a snarky comment about his restaurant not being kid friendly and to my surprise, he responded with an expression of agreement. Our table of ten and the only other party in the restaurant, who had heard the entire thing, stood up in disgust and exited the restaurant single file giving the two gentlemen at the bar the silence they deserved. My family and I dine out three to four times per week and have never experienced this level of rudeness. It's this type of attitude that slowly erodes multigenerational businesses to point of closure. Based on the questionable location and empty echos of once great meals, Colao's is clearly on its way. They also don't have a kid's menu.
