Where shall I start. Only one cook, the staff was clearly frazzled and was seen arguing. When ordering the food was told several times, Sorry "We don't have that". I heard the waitress say that to several customers. She doesn't know the menu. I ordered my food with a " Wine sauce, excuse me if I thought a sauce was supposed to be thicker than a watery substance. My husband food was Mediocre at best. People were leaving more than half their food on a their plate after leaving. I saw one customer who ordered by phone come in and was told to come back in a half an hour. Looks to me like they forgot about him. If you are short staffed and can't fulfill your orders it's time to call it quits.
Bella Italia used to be one of the best places in Altoona for good, authentic Italian food, and now it's struggling just to be a decent restaurant in general. I don't know if it's due to a change in ownership, management, staff, or a combination of them all, but the food is not even close to as good as it used to be - it's mediocre at best - and there's never any consistency. Aside from the food, the service is also very lacking. Do NOT eat here if you're in a hurry and want a quick bite, even if it's to order a slice or two, because you'll be waiting at least 20 minutes. The place is literally falling apart! The booths are broken and very uncomfortable. Some are even destroyed to the point that they're completely unusable. There's no attention to detail whatsoever... they've had the same baskets of dead hardy mums sitting outside for over six months! The once-pretty landscaping is now completely neglected and just full of weeds... it's like they just don't care anymore. There's no pride in the restaurant anymore, and it shows. It's really a shame to see how far the place has fallen.
We had Mother’s Day dinner at Bella Italia tonight! Delish! The breaded mushrooms were to die for! The owner went out of his way to make everything perfect. Chicken Marsala was AMAZING!! We will be back!
We went to order our dinner in person because no one would answer the phone when we got there the phone was off the hook there were two Cooks one Hostess. we stood there for 20 minutes they never even talked or looked at us or did anything we left and we'll never go back
I got a message that this restaurant is under new management. Does the prior owner maintain any relationship or ownership? Or have they been bought out completely?
Used to be an excellent place to eat. Use to go weekly. Went there recently and will probably not return. Horrible food. Horrible service.
My Fiance got a calzone and a works stromboli. They were both burnt. He ate his calzone, but I refused to eat my works stromboli. My coworker returned to the restaurant and demanded a replacement, but instead of giving her a replacement works stromboli, they replaced the calzone, which my fiance had already eaten.
There's nothing small about the portions. I had mozzarella bread and a large stromboli. Really friendly service that made it all the more worthwhile.
Loves their chicken ranch pizza.Was not very comfortable sitting on the springs on the booth seat.?
Halfway decent food..but the service was beyond terrible. The waitress never came not once the entire 2 hours of waiting on our food to ask if we needed a refill (i sat for the whole time with no refills til the end). She never apologized for how long it took. We didnt get our appetizers til after the food. She forgot my husbands salad then after i asked where it was gave him lettuce with onions (no cheese) ...i had to ask. I asked for crackers 4 times before i got them, never got cocktail sauce, had to get up and get enough forks off other tables. We did not get breadsticks that come with the meal til the end when most had finished the meal. What topped it off is that she didnt even put my order in. She saw me there with no food for 20 min while othes ate.. I had to say something to owner , asking where my food was.. Then had to wait til everyone elsee was done before i even got my food. As an owner my meal should have been free.. 100$ bill ... Not one penny of tip $ bc it was the worst waitress experience ive ever had. If it was busy i could maybe understand some but there were 3 customers the entire time . will not be back.
