I have been going here for a couple years and initially I loved this place. Now the quality (and portions) are inconsistent.I understand higher costs given inflation but the price of their food seems extravagant for what you get especially since quality control is an issue.I have previously enjoyed the garlic green beans and pepper salted shrimp which were soooo good. Now food is almost always overcooked and shrimp is tough to chew.
I just recently went to Zien Hoang. We have been going to the restaurant before my daughters were born. They are both adults now. We went to the restaurant and ordered our normal food. The food didn't look like the normal food that we usually get. The spring rolls were wrapped like it was done by myself. The fried rice was over cooked and had no taste to it. The wonton soup didn't have any taste to it and the broth was watered down and I had to add soy sauce to even get some sort of taste to it. I told my wife. We will not be going back to the restaurant any time soon. It has gone down hill since the waitress Tina passed away.
Think I'm over it. Every time I have come in here and picked up food; they are frazzled, and the food isn't ever ready. They ALWAYS have green beans in the foyer area; cleaning them, while patrons walk past the exposed veggies. You ALWAYS have to ask for soy sauce, hot chili oil, and mustard, and even then they give you two packs, even if you have ordered over five dishes. Very over priced; way more so than other places. The house lo-mein had three shrimp in it. The beef fried rice had no seasoning. Think they are over worked, and don't like working there. Not a diverse menu either. Could have way better customer service, but again, they are busy, and they seem over worked and under appreciated. No one there ever smiles, or thanks you. Just grabbing that money, and getting you out of there without napkins, or anything. First time I liked the food. Second time, it was okay, but still flavorful, burned clumps of low mein noodles. Third time - not that good at all, and each dish had a lack of protein. Think I'm cool on this place for a while. Stop prepping food where the customers stand to pick up food.
Other than the parking situation which I find parking behind the building in the neighborhood the easiest. I always enjoy getting my food from here, decently priced and of course enough portions to have leftovers. Having tried a couple of their specials as well, it's always good to see what's new on the menu.
What a wonderful find! This is our go-to place for Chinese food. Everything is high quality, and freshly made. Try the green beans, the eggplant, the honey walnut shrimp, moo shu pork--you can't go wrong. Friendly people as well! ❤️
Their food is always fresh and great tasting. We've had several things on the menu our favorites being the Mongolian Beef, pepper salted shrimp or chicken and or course the different fried rices.
Terrible service, refused to give me sugar or any table side condaments for my tea and soup. Charged for dinner during lunch. Not only that i was charged 3 dollars more on each of my items past the dinner price. Paid 60 dollars for green beans rice and brocoloi beef. Scam, theifs.
First time here and tried to order Egg flower tofu soup...small size. We were told there were no small size soup, we had to order a LARGE bowl. I asked for no mushrooms on my Chow Mein...came with mushrooms. :( Will not return.
We came in with a party of 10 and ordered so much food, we were worried that it was going to be too hard on the kitchen. We got amazing service and delicious food. Love this place!
Pretty much the best Chinese food in the Portland area. Open until 11. Can be a little inconsistent from times time to time, but by and large they are really great and worth the visit.
