Oh what a delightful place! We had the hush puppies, snazzy cocktails, grits and incredibly tender and flavorful pot roast. (Way more elegant than it sounds ? ) Our waiter was fantastic, attentive and helpful and fun. Took dessert to go, a decadent banana pudding that was such a treat. We will be back! So glad we found our way here.
The fried chicken sandwich (dipped) was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The chicken was delicious - so crispy and moist. Honestly just a great balance of savory and fresh flavors. The hot honey fries had a great kick. To top it off, the folks at Yonder were kind enough to gift us a couple servings of banana pudding when we had to wait a few minutes for our takeout order, which was a wonderful surprise. We were really blown away with how good everything was, our only regret was squeezing it in on the way to the airport instead of being able to enjoy right there.(My dad recommended this place to me based off a youtube show he saw, would love to give credit but not sure his source!)
WOW! Delicious down home Southern cooking in NE Portland. If you like Southern food, even just a little, you have to try Yonder!Their fried chicken is on point, it's seasoned perfectly, so crispy and deliciously decadent! Yep, decadent fried chicken ? ? the juices sealed inside the crispy, potatochip thin, batter that seems fused with the chicken skin will make you think you've drooled on yourself! ???The best fried catfish I've ever had the pleasure of tasting, served with special bbq sauce, order and enjoy with delight.Melt in your mouth biscuits... seriously just go there and thank me after!!
Service was good, most of the food was good (but nothing amazing). Had mac, pea salad, biscuits, rillettes, and lemonade; all fine. The chicken was a disappointment though. Under seasoned, had a weird texture, and no crumble. Not bad, but wouldn't go there again for fried chicken.
In the words of my son: on a scale of one to 10, this chicken sandwich gets an 11 (and the school one gets a negative one).I'd agree. The sandwich is big and delicious. I eat the whole thing every time and kind of regret it because I'm stuffed and have no leftovers (and it keeps well for lunch the next day....).I've had a few other things, and they are solid, but the chicken is where it's at.
The old fashioned was good, the biscuit was good, the chicken sandwich was good. You kind of needed a cartoon mouth that unhinged to eat the sandwich, though. Wish they had aoli. Also felt like my plate was going to slide into my lap when I was cutting my food, there's no barrier so they should put down a napkin or something for friction. The service and the people were amazing and I loved the atmosphere. The wine pour was super weak. Overall I probably wouldn't recommend but I'd join friends if they were going.
Great great flavors, we will be back to try the different versions of fried chicken. But wow cocktail prices at $14 each. Can't afford anymore. Went with beer instead.
This was my first meal in Portland and it was delicious! I had the dusted fried chicken, it was crispy, juicy and amazing. The angel biscuits... I mean WOW!The hush puppies were pillowy and delicious. They had a very good IPA on tap.
Our party had fried chicken, 2 chicken sandwiches, catfish sandwich, biscuits, pea salad and pimento Mac & cheese. Everything was excellent! Sweet tea was a little too sweet, but still excellent. I would definitely recommend.
So here’s the thing. Yonder’s food is amazing. Many of the items on the menu looked incredible. Got the chicken and dumplings and the cake of the day along with one of the fried chicken sandwiches. However, the portions are smaller for the price. Sandwich doesn’t come with any salad or fries or side of any kind, and neither did the other entrees. This is a great date night place to go to if you’re willing to spend a little extra for a little less of really good food.
