Food was delicious, I’ll definitely be a regular.Wontons were yummy and the sauce so good I brought extra home; green beans were garlicky, spicy and crunchy; fried rice was hot and flavorful.Major plus is a small menu and exceptional attention to design. Lots of outdoor seating, so our pup comes along and we share a few dishes and some beer. What more can you ask for ???
I highly recommend YaYa Cantonese BBQ!!! The roast duck is phenomenal with the most delicious crispy skin. The pork belly steam buns are the best I have had. And the flavor of the green beans pairs perfectly. Amazing! Thank you, Steve!
YāYā is fantastic! We ended up ordering take out when my parents came to town and got the duck, fried rice, pork belly buns, wings, scallion oil noodles and green beans. Everything was delicious. Simply put…delicious. You can tell Chef Chin loves what he is doing, you can taste it in the food.
I haven't found any other place in Portland with this type of authentic, delicious Cantonese BBQ at such reasonable prices. I've eaten there several times and my favorites are the pork belly and the green beans, but everything is delightful. I also love that the restaurant tells the story of the owner's background as a kid eating roast duck from his grandpa's store in New York Chinatown. It is clearly a labor of love, which shows in the quality of the food.
Everything I’ve had here is really really really good. The duck is amazing, even had their duck for thanksgiving last year instead of turkey and it was a major upgrade. So flavorful and juicy. Also DO NOT skip their green beans. I know it seems silly but those green beans are ADDICTIVE. Perfect flavor with some kick. Great char siu and yummy fried rice.
LOVE YaYa! Everything I've tried has been amazing and I've tried nearly everything on the menu. Some of my favorites are the roast duck (and roast duck buns), char sui pork, pork belly, garlic green beans (seriously, order the green beans), spring rolls and all of the delicious, house-made sauces. Whenever my wife and I have visitors in town, we order YaYa takeout to eat family style.
This place was delicious! Stopped in for a quick light dinner on the way home and ordered the roast duck buns, char siu buns and some duck fried rice. I'll take those amazing little buns over street tacos eight days a week, and my picky eating 4 y/o didn't want to share the fried rice (which I understood because it was fantastic).I should probably only give them 4 stars because we didn't try very much of the menu, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and trying to balance some of the ridiculous negative ratings. We'll definitely be back.
Had the char sui, scallion noodles, and the dumpling special for dumpling week. Everything was flavorful and delicious, and we'll easily get another meal out of the leftovers. We ordered takeout and it was ready exactly when they said it would.
What a lovely place! Their food is on point, and tasty delicious! You have to try their char siu buns! Flavorful BBQ pork in a fluffy bun!
We came here on a whim, and so glad we did. The restaurant is going for the casual flair with an order-at-the-counter take-out-only style, which fits its offerings of traditional Cantonese style BBQ known as 烧味 (siu mei). There is no indoor seating, but plenty of outdoor streetside patio seating that is nicely set up. The kitchen is massive and you can observe from the outside in, where you can examine the traditional hanging rotisserie ovens. The owner helped us out at the counter, and quoted a 15-minute wait time. We got our food in just over 10 minutes. You have to eat it right away! First thing we noticed is just how crispy the pork belly was. You can run a fork over the skin and hear the scratch. The fat and meat is still soft and juicy underneath, not dry. The chinese hot mustard and plum dipping sauce is really good. It also came with some standard pickled veggies over a bed of fragrant rice. The wontons with chili oil are hand wrapped but the oil came separate so it wasn't doused in oil. The oil is more of a fragrant scallion oil which we actually preferred over the usual 麻辣 (ma la) chili oil. The star of the show was definitely the roast duck buns. The duck skin was crispy and perfectly glazed while still being a generous cut of meat underneath. It was not greasy but still juicy, and the scallions and coriander add a nice fresh contrast. Overall, one of the best Canto bbq we've had anywhere. It was just a little pricey overall but it was plenty of food for two hungry folks. Will definitely return to try their signature roast duck!
