Best gluten free falafel plate I've ever had.Really great cucumber salad, falafel, tahini, and hummus. The rice was really delicious and flavorful. The attention to detail was perfect. This was the kind of meal that usually costs three times as much elsewhere as it does at Ya Hala.Very friendly people work here, too, so even ordering and waiting is delightful.
Mixed feelings on this place. Food was fresh ( fresh veggie ingredients) but it's like they use no spices what so ever on any of their food. Judging by the empty salt and pepper shakers, others may have felt the same way. This place would be ok for vegetarian options but skip any meat options. Really wanted to love this place but it was way too bland for me.
We had our Valentine's dinner here after our reservation elsewhere fell through. It really met our needs! Yummy, fast, great value. Nice dining room. Good wine list. And it's a neighborhood place. Just right!

The food, I got the half chicken. The sides were pretty generous. The potatoes, salad and garlic sauce were really good as well as the baklava. The chicken and rice were bland. Part of my order was missing, but was already at home when I realized.Online ordering, I waited over an hour for my food. I ordered at 5:30pm online and it said the order would be done by 6. Got there at 6 and wait over 40 mins for my food. The staff didn't apologize and looked overwhelmed, even though there were a over 10 people working there. The staff said there is something wrong with the online ordering and people should plan to wait for 5-10 mins, so not sure why I waited 40 mins. Overall, not worth the wait and drive.
Will keep going back.Updated review: I was really worried about Ya Hala and the effects of Covid-19 on this wonderful restaurant. Many comments say it's more of a take-out place now. I went the other day and their menu is much smaller. So, yeah, I was worried.Happy to report that the best baba ghanouj in Portland is alive and well. They still make many favorites like the mezza plate and lamb kabobs. Our group of family and friends had a lovely dine-in experience. Don't forget to have the falafel.
The current "Lamb and Beef Special with Yogurt Sauce" is disappointing. I'm not sure if there's new ownership or something but the images in reviews look so much more appetizing than what I received. It should also be mentioned that their menu has completely changed from what was posted online, it is less Lebanese and more just generally Mediterranean at this point. The rosewater rice pudding was good though.
Amazing food every time! This despite the pandemic, which appears to have caused most restaurants that managed to stay open to have staffing problems that seem to bleed over into the quality of their offerings. So many of my previously favorite restaurants are now either closed forever or serve disappointment after disappointment. Back to Eden, Bob's Red Mill... The list goes on. Hooray for Ya Hala!
Im not comin back here, it sucks because i live so close, but the last few times ive ordered from Ya hala, my food has taken at least 40 minutes and i never get anymore than 2 items. I understand this isnt a McDonald's, but it doesnt take 40 minutes to put out a chicken shawarma sandwich and a side of falafel. The falafel also wasnt very hot and super dry. The food is also super expensive, a piece a cake shouldnt be 7 dollars, EVER!
We have had problems here in the past but my wife said, “Let’s give ‘em one more try”. Mistake. Our delivery was missing all the lamb featured in the dish. Then I discovered what I previously thought impossible: to make falafel that is utterly without taste. It was dipped in an overly lemon infused baba so that our entire meal was a bust. Overpriced and very mediocre. We have learned our lesson!
