I've been wanting to try out The Hazel Room for a while now, so I went yesterday, and it did not disappoint. I had the Bee Gee Breakfast GF and it was deeelish. The gluten free gravy is so tasty. I also treated myself to an a la carte GF French Toast, with coconut and hazelnuts. Very delicious. The location is perfect for a walk down Hawthorne afterwards and the interior of the building is so lovely. The staff was also incredibly friendly and attentive. I definitely give two thumbs up and would recommend this spot to others!
My friend and I chose this as our brunch destination after a 6 mile hike. We were told the wait to be seated was 20-30 minutes. This is fair for brunch hour. Once seated, our waiter didn’t even bother to bring us water even though the tables had empty cups on them already. We had to ask for it. We knew what we were going to order as we looked at the menu during our wait. We ordered food and drinks shortly after being seated. After about 35 minutes, I noticed tables with larger groups and even people who arrived and were seated 20 minutes after us, begin to receive their food. My friend asked a waitress if we could at least get our drinks as we’d been sitting there for more than a half an hour. She seemed confused. She went into the establishment and returned shortly after to advise us that our waiter forgot to put our order in. This was extremely frustrating. This waiter neglected us the whole time. Perhaps because we were sweaty and dirty as we hiked all morning? We were told our food would be rushed. Drinks came at the same time the food did. The waiter seemed very nice to other tables, he even told one table that his day was “better now that they were here”. I could care less about the mindless chatter and the empty flirts in an attempt to get a bigger tip. We had a horrible experience. Perhaps they should train their staff better, ins common sense. Hospitality was not it. We did get a small discount on our check but they could have done more after the treatment we experienced.
Very cute little spot and delicious brunch!! The place is very charming inside. Note that the wait is a little long on weekends (like most brunch places in Portland) and they don't take reservations, so just expect to wait a little bit. I had the bread pudding brioche french toast and it was one of the best french toasts I have had! Overall a great spot for brunch!
B e s t. E g g s. B e n e d i c t. I n. P o r t l a n d. What more must I say? The entire ensemble was exquisite. The eggs were poached to runny yolk perfection. The hollandaise sauce was so delightful I could’ve drank it. The potatoes were crispy by default which was appreciated. The French Connection truly spoke my language. The compote mimosas were on another level. The ambience and staff were phenomenal. If you’re looking for a top notch brunch establishment, look no further.
I had the vegan breakfast burrito. It wasn't very busy but service took a little while. For vegan options, it was one of the better ones I've had. I was most impressed by the cheese which was amazing. It could have easily been a brand name, but it went well in the burriot which was very filling.
Expect to wait a while for a table. Expect to wait a while for service. Expect to wait a while for food. The staff seemed overwhelmed. The music was too loud and the dining room was packed. We struggled to have a conversation. We had to flag down servers multiple times to get drinks and to get the rest of our order. The food is good. I think they need a couple more staff members to provide better service. When we did talk to the staff, they were kind and courteous, but rushed.Excellent gluten free options. The best gluten free french toast we've found thus far.
One of my go to breakfast spots. The potatoes are absolutely scrumptious, delicious mimosas/beverages/coffee, and lovely staff <3
I wasn't crazy about some of the vegan options. Vegan scramble is a chickpea flour mix that ends up like a crepe, so not really a scramble. The tempeh was vinegary. Very savory salty potatoes which I liked. Good service but wish I had thought to ask for details or it was explained on the menu what vegan scramble means.
A inviting atmosphere that feels like home. Friendly and attentive staff. I ordered the breakfast burrito and it was delicious and hardy. The portions were perfect and the ingredients were quality. I’d strongly encourage others to patronize this restaurant.
Food was solid. Loved the breakfast potatoes and the biscuits. Service was lackluster. Waited 30 minutes for a couple of breakfast sandwiches which felt way too long. Seemed a bit disorganized because people that sat down well after us got their food before us. Nothing worse when you're hungry!
