I ordered online a salad and two pastries. My grub hub driver showed up only with a salad and said the bakery stapled the bag so he couldn’t check to see that the pastries weren’t there. I called St. Honore and the person on the phone just said “we didn’t get the ticket”. That didn’t help anything and the lack of accountability on the restaurant was annoying to be honest. “We didn't get the ticket” means and does nothing for me. I just paid over $20 to get a salad that costs like $9 and received less than half my order without even a “sorry” or anything to make up for it. I ordered those pastries to surprise my mother and when the package got here, it was a let down. I won’t be back obviously.
Saturday, 9:30 a.m.: Clean, reasonably quick & pretty friendly service. A little pricey but, as a bit of a treat, worth it.Ordered:Orange & ginger gateau - lovely orangey, with crunchy sugar topping.Café eclair - very tasty eclair; could use more coffee.Hazelnut Dacquiose - creamy, with a crispy base, almonds & cocoa powder sprinkled on top. Go on, get one!Raising & fennel roll - very hard but ran under filter tap & atuck in 450F oven for 10 mins; became super soft, with juicy raisins & lovely aniseed tang (like a British malt loaf).Quick Lorraine - delicious pastry, decent contents; overall, little small for $12.50.Brie & herb, & Parisian baguettes - very nice contents but baguettes very hard & cut roof of mouth. Nice side salad included; dressing very vinegar heavy.Good tip: if you have a bigger order, write it out for 'em, with your name; they seem to really appreciate it during their busy times.
Poor service, poor quality food, not at all worth the price. Downtown location is a bit more reliable. Don’t let their uppity attitude fool you, they don’t know what they’re doing.
I have been here twice and while the food is fine, the service is incredibly weird. Both times I've been in, I've done so to pick up items and both times I was completely ignored until finally I waved someone over. Perhaps the pick up area is for GrubHub only rather than pre-orders but regardless it's very weird for no one to say anything to you at all when you're standing around waiting.Additionally, the last time I ordered, two of the items I bought were swapped out. I understand that when you order online, things may not be in stock, my problem is that no one said anything to me about this when I picked up my order, I found out when I got home and opened the bag. This was made even more disappointing by the fact that the items chosen to replace the ones I purchased were a dollar and change less expensive than the ones I paid for (I was given pain au chocolats instead of chocolate brioche and maple bacon croissant).Tldr; the pastries are fine, service is odd, petite provence is just up the street and is better in both regards, I will be going there instead from now on.
Legit french style bakery. Cute interior for dine in. Tried their quiche, mushroom croustade(spelling?) and their St. Honore pastry. Would definitely try more of the pastries if I had more stomach space.
Visitors from Minnesota and this is always a multi-stop place for the best! Food, pastries deserts, sandwiches!!
This place has almost all of it. It has marketing. It has location. It has good service. It even has good French pastries if you’re fresh off the plane from Ohio and only know Tim Horton’s doughnuts. There are much better bakeries in Portland. This is the kind of place that appeals to gentrifiers and tourists who wouldn’t set foot in the rest of the city because eww houseless people. Great service. Nice location. Pastries that a French person wouldn’t finish out of disappointment. Put more effort into the craft of baking and you’ll be perfect, St Honoré.*Edit* - I thought I was being too hard on this place, until I bit into their kouign-amann. I was right to criticize this place. Now it’s two stars instead of three. No good technique for this pastry, and kouign-amann need good technique. Go to Twisted Croissant in NE if you want beautiful French pastries, or go to Fressen in SE for German bakery items that will tick your boxes.
The quiche made for great lunch. Lots of veg options, and the desserts are to die for. Note that chocolate eclair had a chocolate filling and not the usual custard. I loved it, but my partner was surprised.
Good espresso, delicious and beautiful pastries. Really disappointed at the plastic cutlery, disposable cups/ plates. Not only does it take away from the elegance, but it also creates unnecessary waste. Not what I expected from a French cafe :(
Whenever we go to a new city we like to try French bakeries. We tried St. Honore on our first day in Portland and decided we didn't need to look for any other bakeries. We drove across town to have breakfast there every morning. Everything we tried was outstanding, but the Saint Honore was especially noteworthy. We can't wait to go back to Portland so we can enjoy it again!
