This is one of my favorite food trucks ever because waffles plus gluten free, number one. But then their combos are absolutely off the charts delish, and all the servers have the best energy to top it off.I had a savory sandwich once, which was something like a Monte Cristo with goat cheese and arugula, and it was yummers, a perfectly crispy and tasty high end Sammy. But primarily what I go there for is a cross between the Coconana and Almond Joyous. This is banana, toasted almonds, chocolate ganache and coconut whipped cream. Did I say, on a gulten-free waffle?!?!! Here are some visuals. They not only don't mind meeting my special requests, but seem to rejoice in them. I was in love with this spot until today, I have had no problem getting gluten free here and today I double checked before eating cause it looked different. I was confirmed it was gluten free by a staff member. It was not gluten free and I just spent the last 6 hours recovering from an anaphylactic reaction. Will not be eating here again.
Smaake is located in the Hawthorne region downtown inside of a walled off community of food vendors. The atmosphere here is. Very welcoming and inclusive, though can get crowded based on location and the great experience. The food is a pretty creative take on comfort breakfast foods and standard American fare. Due to it's popularity it can take a little longer for your food to be prepared, but it's well worth the wait. I would use this time to explore what else the food court has to offer or just hang by the available fire pits. There is some construction going on due to expansion inside the court, but it shouldn't interfere with your meal too much. Because this is located downtown, parking can be at a premium so plan accordingly. I recommend public transportation, or biking if possible.
I had the Monte Cristo. Without a doubt the best waffle sandwich I’ve ever had. I finished it in my car before I was half way home. I will definitely be back
Gluten-free vegan waffle was very crispy and delightful. I would eat there every day if it was possible!
Ordered the Holla, which was tasty, but would have preferred to have had fried egg instead of a biscuit-shaped scrambled egg disc. Didn't notice an option on the menu.
I really wanted to enjoy this place but the matcha drink I ordered was super bitter with a massive amount of unmixed powder at the bottom of the cup. The waffle was freezer section quality from your local grocery store with what seemed like a reheated sausage patty as the filler. No offense to the staff they were absolutely pleasant. Definite pass on coming back here though just based on the food.
Tried this for the first time today and got the ‘Amsterdam’ sandwich. I took two bites and did not like it at all; the flavors together of the smoked Gouda and Lemon Aioli with spinach and artichoke was a gooey lemon-y not very tasty mess. I took the sandwich back up to tell the employees I wasn’t feelin it and it didn’t taste good and got a few blank stares and “oh well we can’t take it back.” Super disappointed as the waffles smelled so good!
Overrated. The food was only so-so. There was zero parking and we had to drive for miles to find somewhere to park. Someone recommended this place to us and I just felt myself frustrated and how crammed in everything felt. I get that it's down town so it's going to be busier and crowded, but the whole atmosphere and experience was simply not worth it. I definitely think they missed a golden opportunity to have "Chicken and Waffles"
Really great spot! Ordered the chicken club Sandwich and oh man was it good. This Sandwich is seriously fat. Great price, great food, good stuff. Would definitely eat here again. They also have a ton of vegan options as well.
