We call it Benny's after the one time owner from many years ago. He was a Chinese American captured at the Battle of the Bulge in WW2. Family friend since the 1950's. The burger recipe and restaurant decor hasn't changed in generations. Perfect. First time back since Covid and it was awesome! Tastes exactly how I remember as a kid. I don't know how they do it so consistently. Thank you!
We were on a quest for some good diner food. I remembered this place from years past and decided to see how it is now. The place is a definite throw-back in style and is showing its age but the atmosphere is fantastic. The people are super friendly and on-the-ball. We were a bit worried about the prices, $7.50 for the cheapest burger but boy oh boy is it worth it. The ingredients used are top notch resulting in fantastic flavors. The drinks and shakes are delicious as well. Loved the bottomless lemonades. Had some feedback about one item which they seemed to appreciated hearing which is super refreshing as I'm usually timid to comment. Definitely a five-star experience for this type of restaurant. Will certainly come back especially during the warm times for more milkshakes!
The food was very good, but the service was okay. I always enjoy coming to have their burgers and shakes (which are amazing), and their sides are good as well— From onion rings to chili cheese tater tots to fries. They have a wonderful and diverse choice of food you can get, which I greatly appreciate, and the shakes are some of the best in portland. But the service was slow and it took them a while to get our food. But I know that was because the restaurant was slammed and they didn’t have many severs.
Great cooking, good flavor, wonderful server, and the location is perfect! I hope I get to come to this place over and over. And the people I saw here dining while I was here looked like very good people that I would hang out with. The server was so busy and fast pace from all the customers, I was very impressed that she had the time to show good customer service and hospitality to all the dine in customers.Only criticism is that it wasn't warm enough inside to feel comfortable without a light jacket or sweater.
we've be meaning to come here for lunch and finally did yesterday all masked up...i had the coors light, as did my partner, and our friend had coffee...next i had the tuna melt sandwich, sub salad with italian dressing on the side, and my partner had the portabello sandwich with cajun tots...our friend had the chicken strips with bbq sweet potato fries...the drinks/food were excellent, as it took us back to childhood, with all the comfort food, plus healthy choices....the staff is the nicest...it was real busy too!...we loved all the murals, car hop signs outside in the outdoor seating area.....additionally, it brought back so many memories of car hops, turn on lights for car service signs, and more....we loved the forest that surrounds this amazing place.....be sure to tip big during the pandemic......thx so much!
I know we've been here before and loved it. Service was super friendly. We were pretty disappointed in the food though. I would say about a step below dive bar quality, and I've had some fantastic dive bar burgers. The burger was mostly bun and we upgraded to an adult burger for my daughter. Tots were just middle of the road. Milkshakes had ice crystals in them. Not awesome.
Absolutely good burgers and a rotating array of milk shakes. The food is a la cart with a selection of 2 kinds of fresh fries, tater tots, or onion rings. Be patient with the staff as the place is popular but so worth the wait. I will be returning for sure.
I love to come here after hiking in the area! The food is great and I always enjoy the chocolate covered cherry milkshake.I would definitely recommend it, as when I brought my best friend, they enjoyed it just as much as me!
Little family owned burger spot thats been here forever. This is a hidden gem high up in the West Hills. This place was packed when I got here and while I was eating there was a big line to get in. Food is amazing and so are their shakes! I got a fresh banana milkshake with the #14 called the Everything Burger, (1/2-pound burger with bacon, cheddar & fried egg.) There was only 1 server but she killed it, she worked very hard with the circumstances given! ?? Definitely a 5 star burger place! ?
Wonderful restaurant nestled in the hills of Portland Oregon. When I was in high school this was one of my "go to" burger shacks in the area. Years ago I built a home in that general area and Skyline Restaurant was our dining room for several weeks during the home build. I really love this place. SR is really a piece of Portland from the good old days. Please stop by and see for yourself.
