Tried this place for the first time during a weekend DoorDash spree after testing positive for COVID, and I must say that I found it very, very good. The flavors had the level of sophistication that you come to expect from a serious sushi joint. The poke tuna roll was like the sushi roll of my dreams. I can't wait to come back here with a group of friends and do it proper sometime in the not-too-distant future.
The place felt small but it worked out for a group of 11. I ordered the Kara Age and Las Vegas special roll and it was delicious! It is definitely worth the price. One thing to improve is having a simpler menu and them not being sticky. There was just a lot to go over and the fact that they are laminated and big doesn't help.
We had a great time! Got at least 5 different rolls and the eel and salmon sashimi. Our friends got the ramen and some sake. I got the lemon drip which was fabulous. We had an amazing time. Would definitely go back. Probably some of the best sushi I’ve had in Portland so far.
This place has a really cool atmosphere. The service was great. The food was ok, nothing really stood out. I took 1 star away due to the restaurant not being clean. See the two pictures attached, we arrived at 1pm when they opened so the stain on the glass and the mess on the floor must have happened the day before and just never got cleaned. It's too bad cause this place has some good things going for it.
Super friendly service, amazing presentation, and great tasting food. My friend ordered a volcano something and I was truly impressed with how it looked, the volcano was made form something edible, but it was prepared in a way that resembled a flower. Most people I've met probably wouldn't think think twice about something like that, but I was impressed. Also I remember seeing a waiter walk out with a beautiful dish, and part of the presentation had a flame in it. The wind blew out the flame, and rather than present the dish as is, I watched what looked like the entire crew, come together and re-light the flame. To me this demonstrates a commitment to great looking food, and after enjoying the food, I can honestly say that I tasted a dedication to flavor as well. I may just be some random person, but I highly recommend this restaurant.
From the moment we walked in Shoko was an experience! The food was beyond delicious and portion sizes were more than generous. Amazing food for reasonable prices. Staff was very friendly and attentive during our dining experience. We ordered the bento box lunch special and the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen and the Woodstock Sake Flight, both were very flavorful and unique and the sake flight was well paired. Would definitely reccomend Shoko for good eats, relaxed atmosphere and price point.
Shoko sushi is a great neighborhood spot! They have awesome specials and fish varieties. Their ramen, tempura and gyoza are also very good! I’m a big fan of their nigiri specials. They also have an extensive sale list!The photo below is the nigiri lunch special with a California roll (not pictured - it also comes with miso soup).
Really good Sushi. Very creative and tasty. Honey mustard and spicy salmon? Check! I almost don't want to tell you how good it is for fear of lines out the door. But duty calls. Gluten-free friendly. Walking distance from my clinic makes this a constant lunch-time temptation.
If anything I would give this place a negative points any place are available to make sushi, but not a lot can say that they have the ability to serve everyone fast, clean, and efficiently. I've been waiting on my order for over an hour. And no one has even talked to me. If you want to get your sushi at a fast clean efficient way go to sellwood they have amazing sushi restaurants all over the place. How would you feel if I can into ur home and and I just stood there for 30 minutes, without a gesture or word to say welcome. No I'm going to let my guests just stand at the entrance. Hospitality is very important to make your customer feel welcomed and warm in the environment.
Ordered the Chirashi bowl for lunch and it was delicious! Portion was big and beautiful!
