1st time here. Started off very promising. Beautiful establishment and all the staff were beyond welcoming. Nice drinks?.However the food orders were the shortcoming. Noon and crab cakes were out. Told only 3 Beignets left (of 4). We ordered the 3, 30 min later 4 showed up over baked. Had to ask about our main order, very long delay. About an hour later our main dishes arrived. My Blueberry Crepes were cold and dry, I returned the plate. My wife ate solo.Went across the street to grab some samosas for the hour drive home. Memorable Mother's Day Brunch.
Went here for Mother’s Day Brunch with a group of 5 and it was perfect. Loved the cocktails we all had. The vibe is friendly and chic at the same time, the food is great (especially the beignets! Best I’ve had!), the service was wonderful. I had the hibiscus gin and it is the perfect mix of sweet and sharp. They were so thoughtful, every mom got a beautiful gift box with cookies inside. So sweet!! Mom was well taken care of and so was the group. Will definitely be back!
I was a little skeptical of this place after reading Jody’s review, so I decided to come in and Shiners a try for myself. The margaritas were on point. I’m normally sensitive to over-sweetened drinks, but this one reminded me of home (Southern California). Everything else I had and the entire experience was exceptional. I’ll definitely come back here when the balcony is open in summer.
Visiting Portland for the first time and decided to visit Shine Distillery & Grill after reading great reviews and browsing their menu online. Greeted warmly by the host and promptly sat. Waited 10 min and no service. No water. No communication from anyone beyond the initial host. Two people came in 10 min after us and received service from the waiter while we continued to wait. Another 5 min and two tables around us continued to get new drink orders but we still had no communication. We decided to leave. On our way out, the host said “thank you for coming”. I replied, “there was no service” and he just continued talk with another person not even comprehending what had happen.
Holy cow, the food is delicious! We had the fried chicken, gumbo, rueben and mac n cheese. Fantastic! So was my adult beverage. Brought home some hibiscus gin. Service was awesome, too. Loved the place!
Last night we held our annual company holiday party at Shine Distillery & Grill and had such a great experience! We have a small retail business located nearby with a team of 18 and their upstairs bar space was just perfect for our group! The owner, Jon, was so attentive and accommodating, the food and drinks were great as was the service! We had such a fabulous time and we hope to host more parties in the future in this cool space. Thank you, Shine! We will be back!
Live in the area and pleased this place was finally able to open when it did after so much government rigmarole. Love the $25 steak night. Love the brunch. Staff are always friendly and prompt. Gin is good, too. Cheers all around to Shine!
For my first meal in a restaurant since March 2020, I joined two of my best girlfriends and we headed to Shine for a few drinks and a nice meal. Our servers were friendly and the food tasty. I enjoyed my Bourbon Bubbles cocktail while my friend's loved their garam masala old fashioned. I also tried a flight of drinks, 1 each of the gin, tequila, bourbon and vodka they offer. The minty vodka is so interesting, I need it mixed in a drink. I had 2 reasons for visiting Shine and the other was for a tour of the distillery. I needed to write a paper for a class at PSU and Jon Poteet, the owner of Shine, was incredibly helpful. He offered us a tour, and explained the entire distillation process. Jon was so generous with his time and knowledge. Fun note - a majority of the ingredients used in Shine's liquor come from Oregon - from the grain to the fruit infusions, mint for vodka and even the distillery machinery. It was a wonderful evening.
