It's always a nice time at the Sandy Hut.I love this place, I don't go often but when people ask for suggestions it's towards the top of my list as one of my favorite "Old Portland" haunts. The bar staff are super nice which is a nice breather from the uppity hispter bartenders around town. The food is good and the crowd is pretty easy going.

Divest of the dives. The place to be. Free pool table. Slots. DJs. Cheap and good selection of beers. Didn't try the food but it smelled pretty good for a dive when some plates would come out. Have seen some cool classic car and motorcycle shows pull up before too.

Very rude bar man. Gets very snippy when asking their favorite cocktail so I can get that made to order. Then annoyingly and aggressively getting told "we're a dive bar" when asking if they have ingredients explicitly after the big hairy guy says if "we have the ingredients to make the cocktail". What bartender doesn't have a favorite cocktail? Then there's the patrons themselves, so very obnoxious and loud. Couldn't even hear my friend while sitting outside. Couldn't even corral the party to their party section which is on the other side of the building, nor ask them to quite down a little out of courtesy to others.Would rate 0/5 if I could. Highly do not recommend ever visiting.

Sandy Hut is a Portlander's bar. Cheap drinks, quirky dive digs, and a cool vibe... usually. I go maybe once a month, when I'm in the area or crawling with friends, so I'm not a stranger to the place. But there are definite visits when it's made clearly known that I'm not a regular either. I've been straight up ignored in order for the bartenders to service their regulars first. I've been talked to... not rudely... but clearly differently than other patrons next to me. And who wants to go to a bar that makes them feel unwelcome? I say check the place out, but if you feel like the vibe is off, you just may be right.

I like the atmosphere and the drinks are great. The last time I came in for the prime rib Wednesday special, they were short staffed and it wasn't available. Would not have been a big deal except that it was posted a couple days before on their IG and that was how they told me to check when it was available. My only suggestion is to have more attention paid to the social media ? especially if iys going to be the primary communication for specials and availability of those specials. Thanks!

Not at all sandy, but still a great dive. Awesome interesting characters, and generally a good ol'' time. Hit it up of you like the dive scene, take a pass if all you drink is cocktails served up

Great dive bar with a lot of history and tasty drinks. Bar food was good also.

Considering food did not appear to be their focus, it was very good as bar food goes. A little salty, but I wasn't drinking much (one glass of whiskey) so maybe that saltiness would have come in handy if I'd had 4-6 drinks instead. The staff were very nice and other customers were very good at self-organization around who was next on the pool table, so the place attracts a pretty good crowd around 8:30-9:45pm on Thursday from my experience when my girl friend and I went.

One of the most great looking bars in Portland. Bartenders are cool and many diverse kinds of drinks. Must go place if you're visiting, must go if you live in Portland. The only bad thing is the Flintstones prize machine at the back is not working.

I have been going to Sandy Hut since summer 21. I have had both good and bad experiences regarding service. Drinks are always well mixed, but lately drink prices may have changed as I noticed I am being charged more. Also my partner was rejected for not having his ID despite coming in multiple times a week for months. I understand OLCC regulations but that guy is also clearly “over the age of 26” or whatever the standard is currently in OR. because of central location, great bar food, and my favorite pinball, I will keep coming in, but I hope they make cocktail menus more readily available as I would like to know I’m being charged properly.
