The ice cream parlor is cute and artsy. It's located in the fun and vibrant Alphabet District. The staff are friendly as they welcome you in and allow you to try different flavors. The ice cream was a bit gummy and chewy, but maybe some people prefer that over smooth and creamy.Loved the brownie and sea salt and caramel flavors! The lavender and honey flavor reminded me of soap and lotions. The mint chip ice cream had an interesting after taste that was off-putting.Maybe it's really good ice cream and I just don't have the sophisticated pallet to understand it.
The menu was intimidating at first, but I went for the non-traditional flavors and I am so glad I did! Pear & Blue Cheese was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. The strawberry balsamic was so surprisingly delicious, sweet tart and creamy. The staff was super helpful and was patient with our large party and all of our questions and requests for tastings even on a busy Saturday night.Oh and one of the best things was walking in and smelling the fresh waffle cones, which they must know people love because you could buy a candle or spray with that scent! They even had their own ice cream cook book for sale. Overall, a great place to visit for a unique dessert while on vacation!
I've tried Salt & Straw in Cali before and remember it being good. So when I saw they had a location in Portland, I wanted to have my husband try it too since he loves ice cream. We popped in on a Sunday at around noon. We shared a cup of roasted strawberry & white chocolate with sprinkles. This was a little too sweet for me. They were also skimpy on the sprinkles. They do have some pretty interesting flavors though - like honey lavender and strawberry honey balsamic with black pepper. I wish we tried one of those instead since they're more unique.
The employee who helped us was SO MUCH FUN! He made our experience really great and helped us find the best flavor. I tried quite a few and settled on snickerdoodle. Also tried a couple of dairy-free flavors and they were so good. Will definitely be coming back to try everything!
20/10 would definitely recommend this ice cream. They have a great variety of unique flavors to choose from and the staff is very friendly and patient. There's lots of shopping to do around this location so why not treat yourself to a nice sweet treat?
We don't eat ice cream very often, but if we do, it's Salt & Straw, the one and only ❤ They use natural ingredients and real sugar, no corn syrup. My favorite is lavender and honey, and my husband loves caramel one.
Excellent! So many unique and delicious flavors to choose from. They had a bunch of limited time cupcake flavors which were vegan. I greatly enjoyed them and I’m not vegan. You couldn’t even tell that they were dairy free! Friendly staff as well.
The ice cream is phenomenal! I tried the Almond Brittle w/ Salted Ganache and Sea Salt w/ Caramel Ribbons and both of them were lovely.
It lived up to everything our daughter had told us. Holy wow…the pear and blue cheese was the bomb. They just started their newest seasonal menu options today and I ended up doing a split kid sized scoop of gingerbread cookie dough and peppermint cocoa.
I am a huge fan of ice cream, and will always hype up Salt & Straw. I will always recommend the olive oil flavor, which is hard to find anywhere else. All seasonal flavors are worth a try, and I had a great time with the gingerbread cookie dough. Regular cookie dough would be my second favorite flavor overall.I've been to all of the other Portland locations, but visited the one on 23rd for the first time this weekend. Service was great as in any other Salt & Straw, the employees were awesome at staying friendly while moving the line along at a reasonable pace. Sadly, the inside gets full very fast, so my friend and I basically had to eat outside in the cold. I wish there were more space, but otherwise, I can't complain about anything!
