Amazing fried okra and hush puppies. Not too many veggie options but the ones they have are great - I got the veggie sandwich and loved it. All of the meat options my friends got looked really good too. They also have a couple of delicious desserts. I got the sweet potato pie and loved it
I knocked a star cause I ordered the mac and cheese. It wasn't good. I hated the bread crumbs within it. It wasn't creamy or cheesy. But the fried catfish Po'Boy was delicious ?? even with the "pickle relish salad" they put on top, it gave it freshness and texture. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. Reminded me a lot of NOLA.
I really wanted to like this place and the food was good. The vinegar coleslaw with onions and peppers was excellent, and the meats (ribs, brisket & pulled pork) were all tender and moist.Unfortunately, my take out order took about half an hour to assemble and they were not busy at the time. The hostess thanked me for my patience but I shouldn't have had to be that patient. The real killer was that I didn't get everything I ordered. I picked a platter that included cornbread or hush puppies. I opted for corn bread and I added an 8 piece side of hush puppies for an extra $6, but I got back to my hotel to discover I received 6 hush puppies and no cornbread.I don't live in Portland, so I wasn't going to be a regular customer anyway but I won't be going back the next time I'm in town.
I don’t understand charging fresh prices for microwaved food, the ribs were mostly great except for one of the three was cut so wrong the meat couldn’t be torn off the bone, the brisket had some chunks of meat but it was super under seasoned and when I asked for more barbecue sauce they explained that they put barbecue sauce on the meat, duh. Also, it can’t be a great method to remember every order to the best of your ability, and not write things down. I work in food service, I’d have a panic attack if I even tried to remember one tables order in full, so they forget the mac and cheese, which is cool, understandable, I forget stuff too, but like, 6 or 7 dollars for a cup of microwaved mac and cheese? I get it, I really do. If you’re cooking out of a food truck! But you have a whole kitchen back there and you don’t make your macaroni in batches? Madness. After all this, I’m still full, and I’m not sick, so like it’s whatever, assuming it’s like an off night, cause we come in an hour before closing, or whatever, who can mess up peach cobbler? It’s easy when you sprinkle graham crackers on peach pie filling, and bring it cold and many days old. I asked if it was from a can and the man said “the only thing from a can is the corn for the hush puppies”. After everything is said and done, my bill was like 58 dollars. And I still tipped cause people live off that always tip your server no matter how bad it is they deserve a livable wage at the least. And my sister my sister puked in the bathroom after eating what she said was a delicious veggie poboy, so, take that into account.
Got a half tray of mac and cheese to take to my Gram's 93rd birthday the next day. The business left reheating instructions for me and it turned out perfect. Everyone loved it!
One of my favorite restaurants in Portland. Affordable and so tasty!!I had the fried chicken and catfish platter. Both were cooked to perfection but not drowned in greese. Mac and cheese was flavorful and adequately portioned, as were the collard greens.Excellent food prepared with love and passion, what more could a person ask for?
Fried chicken was 11/10, so good!!!! Philly was really yummy, kinda smokey sweet sauce was a perfect compliment and the meat was super tender. I can not say enough good things about the chicken. Service was a bit slow, but fantastic considering it is a one person show.
Great place definitely recommend
We just had Po'Shines cater a co-birthday party for my sweetie and a dear friend. It was perfect.. their catering menu offers a lot of options for very reasonable prices. We wanted some finger foods for a small crowd (35-40 adults) and we were able to size our order really well. We went for chicken and pulled pork wraps (the pulled pork were amazing), hush puppies, and wings. It was easy pickup (we live near by) and our guests loved it. Highly recommend !!
The shrimp po'boy was amazing! Great flavor and crunchy shrimp and perfectly dressed greens. And the brisket and pork were fantastic too! I should not have waited so long to try this place!
