Came across this place, when we were looking to grab a quick bite. It was Taco Tuesday coincidentally. Absolutely loved the food. Had the elote, vegan tacos (mushroom and jackfruit). Would recommend this place to anyone wanting to try vegan food. Will be back when we visit portland again.
Hands down the best vegan Mac I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating and I’ve tried A LOT! The nachos were delicious and the “out and in” burger was scrumptious. Street taco was bomb too. Vegan preggo cravings satisfied and I’m sure I’ll be back for more soon. The bar it’s in called Fortune is really cute too with great service.
Our family came in for the first time and it was taco Tuesday. We didn’t know what to expect other than the food being plant based. Our young daughters loved the food as did we! One of my daughters said “best nachos ever! Another highlight of the visit was meeting the chef. A very gracious and kind soul. You taste his love in every bite.
The food is very good, but I waited over an hour and for my order. I watched multiple people receive their food before me even though I ordered before them. Staff members said I didn’t take my number which is untrue. I gave them a second star because they did comp the meal after I requested they do so.
The food here is some of the best vegan food I've had (except the cheese..vegan cheese is still nasty) but the overall experience brings it down to 4 stars. I'm a meat eater that does 4 months of no meat or alcohol each Jan as a goal and to reset for the year so just something I do. This also gives me some time to try out new vegetarian and vegan places to eat. I'm familiar with this place since it used to be on the other side of the river and since I've been working from home I don't get to Portland much from Beaverton. I think I like the old location better. Even though it was a longer drive, it was easier to order and find parking. This place is located downtown across from the Hyatt centric hotel in another hotel I think called the governor and it used to be a bar called jackknife... I wish the Instagram page would say hey Fortune PDX is in the old jackknife restaurant place. That would help me know where it was a little bit better. I went online and tried to order online but everything that I was looking for said it was not available at this time even though I put in different times of pickup. So I'm not sure what the deal is with the website but that means I have to drive all the way down there to see what they had it available and then order at the bar and then wait about 35 minutes for my food when it could have been being prepared as I drove down there. Total travel time from my house down there and back was about an hour and 45 minutes and most of that time was spent waiting for my food and since I'm not drinking alcohol I would have preferred to not have to wait inside of a bar. The fact that this place is also 21 and over means that my daughter who is also does this diet with me. I can't take her to the restaurant to have some dinner with me. So for other folks, before warned that you have to show proof of vaccination even if you're doing a takeout order which I think is a little bit over the top because I saw DoorDash people coming in there and I don't think they were asking for proof of vaccination from those folks. Now as far as a food goes, like I said previously, this is some of the best vegan food I've had around Portland, but if you get a cheeseburger and you're not used to vegan cheese, I would suggest you skip the vegan cheese. I read an article recently that was talking about how vegan cheese has been improved over the last few years and I think it's still stinks and makes my food taste Chemically. I can almost guarantee you that the hamburger that I posted a picture of that If you're a meat eater, you probably cannot tell that that is impossible food. I also got the jalapeno mac and cheese and it is very delicious so obviously they're not using that same vegan cheese that they put on the hamburger on the mac and cheese. Food is excellent but the service needs some work and some clarifications on the website. As I remember the lady at the bar telling me that the website ordering was only available for people who get it delivered via DoorDash.
Some of the best vegan food I’ve had in town. The owners incredibly kind and generous. Even cooked up a special meal for us just to try it. Great options and great service. Very happy with my experience.
I've been looking forward to trying this restaurant for like a year now and finally was able to last night. We had to wait an hour for our food which wasn't a big deal because we were listening to the live music in the other room anyways, but when I got home and tried the food, it was horrible. I wanted to like it so bad and im not picky at all. The mac n cheese literally just tasted like noodles and the burger was soggy and no flavor. I ended up waking up this morning with bad stomach cramps and on the toilet for like an hour. The bartender said there was only one girl cooking so i was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt since she was doing it alone but at the same time, it was just a very disappointing experience overall. Id be willing to try again because maybe it was an off day, but after the stomach cramps from the food, im cautious lol
food and service was incredibly underwhelming. probably the worst/most overpriced/overhyped vegan restaurant i’ve ever eaten at. spent 10 minutes max there, ate a quarter of my food, now my stomach and everything inside is ready to explode.
Where to even start? First off they haven't bothered updating their address on Google because they are no longer at 1412 SE Morrison St. If you go there (like I did) all you'll find is an empty store front with no sign directing you to their new location. They're now located in a bar on 727 Southeast Grand. Would be GREAT if they updated that so people don't end up wandering the block looking for a place that isn't there. So once I found them I figured it should be an easy grab in go as they sent me an email 15 minutes prior saying my food was ready, no such luck. I walk in and the bartender (who was wearing her mask as a chin diaper) says it's not ready and doesn't know when it will be. Which was confusing why I got a order ready email. So I wait for 15 more minutes (30 total since email saying it was ready). Finally it comes and we left.So that's just the ordeal getting the food. How did it actually taste?Subpar at best especially for the price.I got a jackfruit taco which was cold and tasted like the only seasoning on it was hot sauce. The fish taco was slightly better and had flavor but it was also cold and the guac on it was brown. I assume it had been sitting there for 30 minutes. The jalapeno mac was bland with what seemed to be tiny pieces of jalapeno from a can and was cold (noticing a theme here?)Finally my wife ordered the nacho fries and guess what? They were limp, soggy and cold as if they had been sitting there for 30 minutes! There are so many better vegan places to spend your money. But if your interested in bartenders that don't give a hoot about public health and cold, soggy, bland, overpriced food then by all means check them out.
This just did not live up to the hype at all. My friend and I got the nachos and the birra. Neither had salt. For the birra, it seemed like they used a hardshell corn taco instead of toasting up a tortilla that had been dunked in the sauce. ? Chips tasted stale and the salsa literally tasted like nothing.
